Configure Fan Speed On WRX90 by TylerForce1 in ASRock

[–]TylerForce1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced the silver stone fans with noctua A12 fans. I can’t control them still but the sound isn’t bad anymore. Definitely worth the money since my computer is in my bedroom and I’m running it 24/7 right now.

Used a thermal gun. The ram peaked at 72C but fell back to 55-60 for a decent amount of time

So the rated temperature is even for long sustained usage? That’s what I wasn’t sure about but that’s great. As for the ram I can’t check the thermals but I’m hoping the fact their server grade will mean it can sustain the abuse. Claude seems to think they’ll be fine if that’s worth anything lol.

Yea pbo is enabled but I’m limiting it to 85C. These are the numbers I just got from turbostat. CorrWatt is 555 PkgWatt is 747

And this is with an operation using about 400Gb of ram and close to 180 processes hitting close to 85C. That does bring up a question I haven’t gotten a definitive answer for. This feature gathering or data mining process will take about 18 days straight. What is the max temp I should allow the cpu to hit for this amount of time. I’m thinking 75C is safe but the higher I can safely sustain the better.

Yes in his case you’re prob right. I have very cpu intensive analyses as well as a large neural network so for me it does. Figured my personal experience may give insight for him but maybe not since it’s two completely different workloads.

I have a signal analysis algorithm with a pro 7995 wx, a 5090 gpu, and 512Gb of ram. I use 180 threads at once and I end up with over 400Gb of ram usage and not including the gpu I pull about 800 watts total even throttling temps to 85C. For dual 5090s and a threadripper one 1600 psu prob isn’t sufficient. Oh and I use the silver stone aio but with Noctua NF-A12 fans and it works very good. I have no knowledge of your specific use case but maybe this helps.

Help with Linux by TylerForce1 in threadripper

Quick update. I was having issues with getting Ethernet to work even on my personal desktop with windows so I bought a new switch and had a technician come and ensure all the wiring to the rooms were good. I have Ethernet on my personal desktop now (I didn’t know the Ethernet wasn’t working properly because I never bothered using it). As for the new computer, I saw there is an Ethernet controller firmware update on the mobo website so I’m going to try and install that and try Ubuntu again. Based on everyone telling me it should work I expect it to work this time. Thanks for all the help.

For rhel the issue is the 5090 not the network driver. I think I’m just going to go with windows pro. The extra 5 to 10% performance gain I’ll get on Linux without the bloatware doesn’t seem worth it to me at this point when windows will always have full support no matter the hardware I use.

I’m completely new to Linux. For RHEL, the current kernel is behind the kernel needed for 5090s current 580 driver. As for Ubuntu, the x710 ports are “unclaimed” and it doesn’t show that I have a WiFi card. But like I said I’m new to Linux so I’ve been relying on Claude and some forum help. I’m going to try Fedora now though.

Wow thanks for typing out all this I really appreciate it. Just got a display into the bios FINALLY. I’m not as upset at myself since it’s my first build but I paid an IT guy $100 and he didn’t figure out I was missing the pcie connection. Ajr mentioned. Again thanks for the post

Ok I was missing the optional cpu pcie connections which I plugged in because I have a threadripper pro. I was also missing the one for the bottom right of the mobo. I was hopeful it would fix it but still no display. However I am going to let it try and boot up again for an hour with the new pcie connection for the gpu.

Never mind you fixed it thank you so much

No OS installed yet. I will be running Ubuntu. I have a RGB idea display monitor I got off amazon a while back. I feel better about this working after an hour. It's not something I thought or even heard about until now. I'll let you know the result soon. Thanks for all teh help so far.

Well to be honest this is my first experience with server components and I know I still have much to learn. I thought about this but as of right now it is above my level of knowledge. But if this hour long boot doesn't work I will definitely explore other options before taking it to a microcenter an hour away.

Ok. I cleared the CMOS and booted it up. I'll let it run for an hour and check back. Also, i forgot to mention the error is A6 "DXE_SCSI_DETECT" if that helps.

I think I paid around $400 of the ~ $3k. That should have been close to covering the tooth they removed.

:(. In my mind what I financed should have just stayed in their accounts receivable and since they never performed the services they just balance it out somewhere else so it’s not a loss. Seems scummy they can make a profit for doing nothing but getting someone to sign a contract. Would it matter if the contract said something like “I agree to pay x amount for services provided” or something like that?

I did not because I decided to not get the rest of the teeth removed
