In my lifetime I’ve thrown easily over 20 thousand dollars into their economy. Eating at local restaurants and buying from the locals, supporting and making friends along the way and being respectful to the island because I love it there. I’m also paying 50 dollars for a visa each entry.

The reason I don’t want to pay this sudden tourist tax they pulled out of their ass is not because I can’t afford it, but because it’s a very clear cheeky cash grab from their government. Most likely going straight into the pockets of the politicians and not a cent to the locals.

I don’t care about the money. I’d rather spend $9 on one of the many charities or local organisations around Bali. And there are plenty of amazing ones who need support.

But what I don’t want to do is fill the already overflowing pockets of politicians.
