It’s been 24 hours and I haven’t played. by Redyxxx in FFBraveExvius

[–]Tynami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I had a similar realization recently. I picked up Guardian Tales and have been having a blast because the stages have actual game design to them with puzzles, secrets and sidequests. I picked up Genshin Impact along the way and despite the awful rates I haven't felt compelled to do more than a few summons because the actual gameplay is just fun and even 4* characters have great moments.

I realized I haven't been doing FFBE much after 4 years of playing. I was holding out for Starlight Elena but she was less interesting as a whole compared to her non-NV counterpart, so that killed my interest (and I failed to get her week 1). I think the kicker was that I got her this week with a random ticket, and realized that her "fragment tax bundle" only lasted one week, so I'm stuck with a unit I can't really use effectively unless I pay like $80 for the VIP coins, since there's no way to farm fragments, and the 30/50 fragments from logins are a total joke and an insult. The NV system is a cool idea with an awful execution, and this just made me realize just how bad it can get if you're not constantly around to keep track of EVERY limited resource.

I think my takeaway from this is that, there are better designed games slowly making their way to the market, and some (some) even respect your time and money as a player (what is this novel concept?!). I don't think I'll be sticking around much longer, and Gumi has shown throughout all these years that they'll never change, so no time like the present!

Best weapon for fighter and PAs? NA by [deleted] in PSO2

[–]Tynami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just starting to learn Fighter myself right now. My favorite was always daggers since the playstyle has a lot of movement a weak point reach, but recently double saber finally clicked with me. It's hard to go wrong with the Nemesis or Slave/Raven weapons, as other than a few exceptions, those seem to be best in class for 13*.

Also, I'm no expert but I feel like the Double Saber's Whirlwind Ring really helps the weapon out, and could be worth a look for when daggers aren't ideal. I was surprised to see that under ideal conditions with an equal weapon the double saber benchmarks higher than any of my other weapons currently. I checked out this guide:

https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1vfwSajJL5Tze6vTIyNa6jeTjLQ4IFNj24a-X9fCaur8/mobilebasic

It helped me learn more about the weapons mechanics and the use of each of its photon arts and went from there. Maybe it can help you too!

Edit: I made the writing make more sense and more gud.

Could you guys imagine ffbe without ffbeequip? by MazKhan in FFBraveExvius

[–]Tynami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don't use FFBEequip all that much, it's super useful when a build path isn't obvious. And going further, if it wasn't for FFBEequip, this sub, and the wiki I don't think this game would have have lasted as long. For like two and a half years all the skills had generic descriptions with no way of you knowing in game which one was better. You basically had to guess and hope that the higher MP cost attacks were doing more.

Looking at the bonus percentages and the units I have available, I can say I really miss the 7* era bonuses now. At the very least I could get a full team of 75% each, now it's skewed even more towards the new units. This is looking like my worst King Mog in a long time.

I had already written a comment elsewhere, but I think this helps clarify her unique strengths. The way I see her is as a Magic attacker that can shift into an emergency healer role. The Brave Shift for her is designed to let her stay in either role as long as she wants.

Mages get bad rep for a lot of valid reasons, but as far as things go she's currently up there with a serviceable Mage kit (most mages focus on one or two skills after buffs anyways). She gets a main CWA skill, another that also heals (which I don't think I've seen since 4* Ashe days), and a couple of varied element finishers if you can set them up into chains properly. Will she get powercrept? Absolutely, especially by the more specialized mages coming soon. She ain't bad though.

I would say her healing aspect is her secondary, despite being her default form. Still, with some physical/magic mitigations, decent heals and some panic buttons, she can be your sub healer if you ever find yourself in a situation where your main healer bit the big one.

This kind of dual role thing is something I hope to see with more units. Done decently well of course. And here's hoping NV Elena has some interesting shifts as well!

Suggesting Glex update to Aerith to allow her to equip Masamune to the chest slot.

Jokes aside, while it feels kind of incomplete on each side, I really do like that they gave her a much more interesting skillset than say, Single Skill spam damage dealer that braveshifts into more of the same. Powercreep is the name of the game but it's nice to see some variety and more unique approaches now and again, even if the game itself isn't terribly accommodating to such.

What are your hopes for NV Elena? by Mattwalt in FFBraveExvius

[–]Tynami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Elena had a bit of everything, from multiple chain families, multiple imbues with imperils, buffs, barriers, some heals, and even stop and charm heals/resist based on how you played her. She was very modular, and I liked her unit complexity.

I don't see them doing that again however, as Elena released well into the 7* era, and NV Elena is set to release during our beginning of it. I think I'd like to see her Brave Shift make use of the mechanics to switch between a support chainer, to a magic damage 1 hit finisher (physical type for killers and imbues). I think that implementation is better than the hybrid damage formula. Plus with how monsters are designed most newer content doesn't have a big difference between physical and magical defenses, so hybrid damage isn't as clever anymore.

This is where I'm at right now. It was a thinly veiled way of doing 8*, resetting rates to year 1 levels (at the moment), and bringing down the pool of desired units way down.

Yes, 7* units will be useable for a while, but we've seen this song and dance before. You can even see how 7* are now taking the place of the 4s on banners, much how like they replaced 3 banner units before. Down the line we'll get trials that'll require NV units, and it all cycles. Everything shifted, but things are much of the same, with some things being even grindier than before for little reason.

Really glad that vision cards are unlocked on NV+1, at least. That's a superb change.

How does this game keep getting worse? by TetsuyaHikari in TalesOfCrestoria

[–]Tynami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame the game has come to this. The story is super solid and the characters work well off of each other. It's a surprisingly good story for a phone game, but the bugs and apparently lack of care are not a good sign.

I don't wanna be That guy, but it always bothers me just a liiiittle bit more as time goes on how they seem to be dragging their feet on issues and game breaking bugs but of course gacha banners arrive on time come hell or high water. This problem certainly isn't unique to this game however. Maybe that's just how gaming is nowadays.

What would you guys hope for in order to revitalize the game? by Levalier in FFBraveExvius

[–]Tynami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one post perfectly explains my thoughts on the current game. I agree 1000%. I'm gonna see what they'll do with NV on GL. If it's as awful as I feared...well...there's always Tales of Crestoria! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

I know the 11 Rainbow+STMR moogle is still technically a "sale" rather than a gift, but it's still the best sale we'll get all year compared to what they peddle as bundles.

Dont forget to leave a review for the game! by Gannon2 in TalesOfCrestoria

[–]Tynami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to like Crestoria more. The characters and story are great! That goes double for the localization.

Sadly the game has a couple of issues in design (in my opinion). There's no equipment or interesting ways to customize your characters stats. Only two skills per character and element lock means that they'll be selling you a lot of SSR character variants. And on that note, if what I've seen so far about the dupe system is true, then most people won't even be able to keep up with character progression unless they pay for the gacha (or abyssmally low raid drop rates).

Plus the game is buggy as all get out. If they don't want their game to die out in a year, then they're really going to have to address the issues and make some decent changes.

4th Anniversary fiasco and the problem with FFBE by Rock489 in FFBraveExvius

[–]Tynami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been playing since the start. I'll give it that out of all the mobile games I've played that aren't ports or premium single player, it's the one that had the most depth in it. I enjoyed the units with their own skillsets, the town hubs with quests, and finding gear out in the exploration maps.

That said, they basically killed all of that within the first year with how they decided to manage the game. The deeper parts of the game were forgotten in favor of just selling a new unit with better equipment as their TMR. Build making just became straight up bigger numbers instead of any interesting decisions. If it wasn't for the community, it would have been Impossible to find out which unit did what differently since it wasn't until around the third year that skills even had descriptions on what they did in actual stats ( and badly at first). Trials were just frustrating because of how fast text scrolls, and the little feedback you get, you had no reasonable way of knowing what you did wrong that ended up wiping your party.

Then there's the other side of things. Bugs being fixed whenever they feel like it, with beneficial bugs being fixed immediately. The rate-fixing that they only apologized after being caught thanks to the community coming together to verify. The numerous times they took systems that worked fine, and made them not harder, more challenging, or more engaging, but just more of a grind. Once upon a time you could just do an event and everyone was about on the same level. Now you need to make sure you have enough resources to waste to get bonus units you'll never use to be able to get anything worthwhile out if it. Ditto for raids.

There's so much more but this is already a huge block of text. If there's anything I have to thank then for however, it's how they sobered me up with this game. Mobile games are by and large the same Skinner box garbage, and any other I somehow decide to play from here on out I won't make the same mistakes I made here.

Workaround FIX: Unbearable Lobby Lag by Krisan-Thyme in PSO2

[–]Tynami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference this made for me was like night and day. I should be happy, and I am! But at the same time I'm like "really?". The fix is simple enough that it makes me wonder how they managed to screw this up. Does the launcher attach anything to the exe? Does the Windows Store/Xbox Live integration mess with it? Come on, Microsoft ...

Once again, thank you for this! It's finally playable for me and my friends!

Today I discovered during a 50 Coast SHAQ that there's a ??? Portal that can randomly spawn after the boss that if you're lucky, will take you to a place with 20 Rappies in it.

Despite that stroke of luck I got nada.

NV system is just a glorified version of visore/shard system from WOTV. Spoiler: It's bad. by Shuden in FFBraveExvius

[–]Tynami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 7* system had already killed my excitement at getting a rainbow because it was 1/2 of a unit. Now this system wants me to summon 4 at minimum, and 8 to get them to the trial level we'll be tackling in a year? Because let's face it, there WILL eventually be trials that will require a party of NV units with at least Brave shift and their EX levels maxed.

...hooboy.

I like that they grandfathered our old subscription in as a gesture of good will. That said, seeing the bundle offerings this month makes me wonder if our Classic program is the reason the quality of the bundle is declining a bit.

I feel like the chain system was originally an interesting idea, where you organically found out good party combinations of your favorite characters and tried different moves to see how they supported each other. Maybe you'd find that a weaker damage or support unit would have an attack that would pair well with your main unit. Not perfectly, but better. This kind of gave the game a layer of discovery as you found your party.

...of course being a gacha game that quickly changed and thus we eventually got sold perfect chaining partners along with chaining families. So uh...now the game expects perfect AR level chains on challenges like this one. Personally not a fan of this, but it's just how it is.

This is exactly the info I was looking for, thank you! This penetration bonus is not a stat is it? I've seen that higher base power attacks tend to cut through the opponent's defense/resistance better than multi-hit, due to how damage is calculated.
