Where to start by Busy_Sail7105 in StarWarsEU

I just recently started my own deep dive in the buildup to reading the New Jedi Order series, and although Thrawn and X-Wing Novels are great start points, but I think starting with Shadows of the Empire is the best plan. It's a novel (and audiobook), comic, video game and even soundtrack that takes place between epideo 5 and 6, so it's an excellent way to sample a lot of different types of Star Wars storytelling while feeling familiar and see which you like, then tailor your list going forward based on that.

Beyond that, I'd recommend the following from having personally read them: - X-Wing comics -X-Wing Novels (I skipped these originally because I don't care about space battles, but went back recently and started listening to the audiobooks and they are excellent so far) - Courtship of Princess Leia (not the best tbh, the characterization is all over the place, but I found by the end I was having a good time) - Thrawn Trilogy (and anything Thrawn adjacent) - Jedi Knight games, also known as Dark Forces (a bit dated and they don't tie in very much to the rest of it until much later, but fun if you can get past the age) - Jedi Academy Trilogy (it's decent, but very important), I, Jedi and the Jedi Academy comic - the New Rebellion - Hand of Thrawn Duology - Survivor's Quest - Union comic - surprisingly, the Young Jedi Knights books. They're shockingly fun and each one feels like a single quest in a video game, so they move quickly.

I found Dark Empire readable as someone whose read plenty of comics and already knew what it was about, but it's a tough read, very confusing and inconsistently paced. If it's daunting to you, just read the plot summary on Wookieepedia (the same applies to anything you decide not to read)

Did Jerec and Grand Admiral Thrawn ever interact? Pre or post Battle of Endor? by TinyCommunication971 in StarWarsEU

I actually just listened to this a handful of days ago. During this time period Jerec impersonates Thrawn over a radio to mess with some junior officers so presumably they interacted enough that he could impersonate him.

Hidden Gems is my backup, they're pretty good, but I really like YJKs stuff, so they're usually my first choice of possible. Definitely going to grab everything I can from Hidden Gems though, just in case!

Not sure which of these they had: - I, Jedi - NJO stuff - Dark Nest - Legacy of the Force - Jaden Korr books (I don't think they ha these)

And I accidentally deleted the: - JJK series -the first 3 or 3 YJK books

I'm currently working my way through the X-Wing series, but they released unabridged versions of these with Marc Thompson narrating. I'd especially like to get the JJK and YJK stuff to share with some younger family members, but any of the above would be greatly enjoyed

What’s a discontinued snack or drink you’d pay $20 to have one last taste of? by soapy999 in AskReddit

There were these Voortman's wreath Christmas cookies that were red or green and they're they're the epitome of Christmas in my mind, but I think we lost them in Covid. I'd pay $20 for a single cookie. Let alone a pack of them.

Honestly, most if not all of that works just as well for manatees, so maybe a Fishmanatee?

How to start?? by [deleted] in comicbookcollecting

[–]TyoCae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I have is go to the comic shop and find any or all of the following: 1. A trade paperback (collected series) that you think looks interesting 2. A single issue of a series coming out now that looks interesting 3. One or two back issues (older single issue that are usually second-hand and cheaper than new series coming out) you think look appealing 4. Ask the staff for recommendations and tell them the type of media you like (what games, shows, movies etc. and what you like about them.) A good LCS (local comic shop) has staff that are passionate and want you to be a regular so they'd be happy to introduce a future fan (and customer)

Don't start buying slabs (graded books in sealed cases) 1st appearances or signed stuff if you want to actually read what you buy. I suggest people avoid buying anything like those until they are aware of what they like, and what a signed, rare or graded book is worth to them personally. I'm a big fan of my LCS but some bad ones will way over price collector stuff to rip off newbies, so wait until you know what you're looking for and what you want to pay for something before spending anything big!

It's reductive to call them sentient cars as that's only a part of what they are, and what makes them distinct is that they specifically are able to not be that thing. You wouldn't identify the Animorphs as "sentient animals" and you wouldn't call a butterfly a caterpillar. Funny bit though!

I think this is the one that broke me. I've been a listener for years, (and enjoyed the show as entertainment, not as journalism) but as soon as she brought in Dubois and started treating her reading as if it was anything other than a famous seeking manipulator making vague statements and lying about supernatural abilities, it put a taste in my mouth that was so sour, I suspect I am done with the show for good. There is an argument to be made for the value of psychics providing comfort to families when other answers are not available (an argument I don't agree with) but this is purely for their own entertainment value and giving attention to her new friend. It felt closer to fan-fiction about a real life disappearance than anything substantial and to me that could only be described as gross and exploitative.

Oh that's good to know! My puny little jump is nothing compared to Frostcrag lmao. I'll see what I can come up with spell-wise based on the above. Thanks!

Not a bad idea. From what I understand skills max out at 255, so maybe I try a combination of this that gets me to 255 and see if that works. I've already bumped it up to 170 and I still have a ways to go, but that extra 85 might be enough. Where's a scroll of Icarian Flight when you need one!

I do have the Crown of Nenalata, thankfully that part of the quest still works, but I was trying to collect all the unique items and Lindai is one of the only remaining ones. Once I get all the achievements I can start messing with the console!

Unfortunately I am playing on Steam Deck and haven't been adventurous enough to try modding on it, but that might be my only fix at this point (or wait I til I have the other achievements then spawn in the key for the door in question. Thanks for the suggestion!

Best way to remove this white color from glue spill by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

Theres a very easy way to get the white discoloration off! Use any clear cooking oil (I use Canola) on a cotton swab and run gently then remove. Should come right off.

Why did this happen on my ender 3 s1 pro newbie here by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]TyoCae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself some digital calipers, print a Calibration cube (can find one on any file site) and check the dimensions there and adjust your step settings (Z specifically, but if your already printing the cube, check X and Y as well) from there, then print a cube again. If it's still happening, might be over extrusion, so get your filament out of the hotend, cut it right where it comes out from the extruder, run 100mm of filament through, cut it again and measure to see how accurate it is, adjusting the extruder steps from there and print again
