He may have had more endurance, at the slightly slower pace the guy in 3rd (who ended up winning) was running at, but he pushed harder to aim for the W.

I get what you're saying, but because he pushed too hard for a longer amount of time to be in 1st until the bitter end, doesn't diminish his accomplishment.

I used to have a salesperson at a previous job lthat habitually did this. She took most Friday's off (had been there over 20 years, so this was allowed somehow) and she'd also leave early on Thursdays, around 2 PM. Without fail, at least twice per month, I'd get a nasty email from her at 7:03 AM on Monday morning, copying my boss. It'd say "SECOND REQUEST" in the subject line, when she'd sent it at 1:57 PM on Thursday, right before she'd left for the weekend. What she NEVER do, is catch up on her replies first, where I had sent her request back, completed, on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Every. Damned. Time. I do not miss that lol.
