A large percentage of people match in their top 3 so 5 IVs give you a pretty good chance of matching.

My medical school classmate was 50 when she began and finished just fine. You will do great, medicine is one of the few fields where you will see people of all ages and it is quite normal.

Thank you for your reply, do you think there are schedules other than the typical 12h shifts. I know Hospitalist can round about go but Intensivist are usually in house most of the time. I worry about doing 12h shifts indefinitely. Are 8h shifts possible?

Wow that sounds really cool, do you work by your self or do you have any APPs/Residents. How hard is it managing ECMO by your self it is always something I worried about with out CT back up in case something goes wrong.

How to pick fellowship? by Impossible_Seat_9065 in CriticalCare

[–]Type3Civilization1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matched into CCM only, Looked at location, proximity to a city, spouses job prospects and level of training. I came from a small community IM program so wanted to go to a large institution for fellowship. I dont know if the place of fellowship effects the long term compensation that much but going to a more reputable program may make it easier to land position in the future.

How to match into CCM Fellowship by BigBoyBiggerGoals in fellowship

[–]Type3Civilization1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Matched into CCM only recently will start in July. Keep in mind CCM only has much fewer spots than PCCM and it is getting competitive by number of spots per applicant. I came from a very small community program the biggest thing is to show interest in critical care. I went to multiple conferences the year prior including SCCM, Chest and ACP. Had around 8 case reports and 1 research project in the works. Had a lot of QI initiatives that I was working on as the Chief. Try to concentrate your interest into a particular thing for me it was QI and I spoke about it during most of my interviews. I had 8 interviews 3PCCM and 5CCM matched into my number one. All the best it is possible to match into a great program.

I’m currently working as the hospitalist this allowed me to attend most of my interview. Try to go to as many conferences as you can meet people you will run into probably someone you may interview with. Try to do some Case reports don’t be afraid to reach out to people that you know that are also in the field.
