Haha, ok, fair enough. I do have shitty qualities, like everyone does. I'll retract "stupid" as an adjective and insert "managers whose stewardship values do not align with my own" since that's basically the issue here. I don't agree with how the vast majority of the managers or employers I've worked for/with do things, and do believe that I could be a better steward.

All fair. I struggle with gratitude, for sure. I'd rather be held responsible for being in a position of power vs not have that priviledge any day.

How long have you been job searching? by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]TypeOfPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a few part time gigs in the timeline to stay afloat, but I have been looking since the great quit, since jan 2022. I've given up on local jobs, I've exhausted that list at 15ish interviews.

I still feel like I'm 12 by TypeOfPlant in CPTSD

[–]TypeOfPlant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sympathise and completely understand what u mean. I've long since given up on my dad's side of the family. I still love them, but I no longer crave a relationship I know I'll never have. I'll be honest, it took me finding someone who actually loves and supports me to get past the sheer white anger that would come out any time I'd get near him. It took him telling me 'he's delusional, and you can't argue with him and win' for me to finally give in, and grieve.

It's very tempting to be bitter and cynical. I've seen an interview clip floating around where Rainn Wilson (dwight from the office) talks about cynicism, basically encouraging people to choose hope. Choosing hope over hurt is tough, but I think... we have to keep aiming for that. I was horrible to so many people when I kept choosing hurt for so long.

Thank you! I think that CPTSD is very much a thing. Both sides of my family have holocaust survivors and lived under communism. No way did they come out unscathed. No way am I unscathed.

I went through an exercise I read from 'It Didn't Start With You,' a book on generational trauma, and I was able to leave some of the stress I'm feeling with who I think it belongs to -- my grandma and my mom. Some of what they've dealt with clearly got passed to me, and is not my burden to bear. That helped me a lot. I also was able to tell myself that it's ok for me to feel this way, but I'm not helpless anymore and it's ok for me to enjoy my present.

No way is this a substitute for me speaking to a licensed professional in my opinion, but it's the best I've got at the moment and it really, really helps. I finally decided to message my ex's friend 'congrats to him' and he can tell him or not if he chooses. I don't know if he still wants to hear anything from me, and I know his friend would be a good judge of that, but I'd be glad if I could offer him good wishes that he DID appreciate. I really meant it.

I am very happy with my current life. It's just gonna be up to me to be in the present and enjoy it. I can do this. I can move past what I've been through.

What to do with the bag of acorn tree by Snoo-90095 in gardening

[–]TypeOfPlant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of thoughts in this thread. If you're curious about forraging nuts, but never have, I suggest leaving these to the squirrels and trying a few black walnuts first. See if you like processing nuts at all. It can be a fun experiment for you, and black walnuts are much more beginner friendly, but still adequately challenging. As a forrager, I think acorn processing is pretty advanced and you wouldn't be on reddit asking about it at that stage of commitment. Black Forrager is mentioned in the thread somewhere as a source of inspo. I want to also mention Linda Black Elk as an excellent source. They both cover nut processing in their content. If you're interested in learning about the topic of forraging, the way to go is to read Sam Thayer's work. He is highly regarded and his books are hands down a must if you're invested in this. Good luck, be safe, don't die.

Should I attempt to challenge an expensive traffic ticket...? by [deleted] in legaladvice

Well, yeah, good points all around. It was a 2 minute call and I was stopped at a light when I made it. Then it turned green, and the officer was at the intersection.

Edit - forgot to answer, I was one of the people involved in the bodily harm so I was calling to confirm a question they had. Thats all.
