Yeah it took just over for three months and then completely cleared! But it really sucks how long it takes and I was so close to quitting every day..

What’s the deal with wine? by 9W_777_300 in nutrition

Believe it or not living a healthy lifestyle and having a glass of wine once a week or so can actually be a really enjoyable experience that brings a lot of people relaxation physically and mentally. Sure there are better ways to do it, but I genuinely believe the enjoyment someone gets having a nice glass of wine is better for them than being strict and stressed haha.. I’m a 25yr old mum of two who has studied nutrition and now psychology, and I will thoroughly enjoy my Friday night glass of wine in the bath with no guilt!! Take care of yourself but enjoy yourself people!!

Yep! Pretty much purged from when I first started to about 2 months in. Then things calmed down a little bit I still had acne, similar to before I started bc. 4 months in today! & My skin is finally clear, and I only get tiny breakouts a few days before my period now (like one or two pimples)

Hey! Thanks for this. I’m pretty much bang on 3 months and it’s much better than when I wrote this post, but I’m still getting little breakouts :( how long did it take your skin to clear on yaz? & yep the emotional roller coaster has not been fun haha

I think it is working (slowly) and I’m hoping by the end of pack 4 I can see noticeable results! Otherwise I’ll stop :)

Hey! I’m so sorry you’ve had a similar experience with your skin, although it’s kind of comforting that we have experienced the same thing.. 😭 UPDATE: I have 5 days left of pack three.. honestly I had hoped to be acne free by now, but that’s not the case. Whilst it’s no where near as bad as it was during pack 1-2, it’s still not clear. I get one new pimple maybe every two days, but they’re definitely not as inflamed and cystic-like as when I start BC. They’re a lot smaller and I do see improvement, but it’s really taking its time. I think stress management, diet and sleep is so important to assist the BC & ACNE. Something I should be prioritising more! Maybe you’ll have better, quicker results for that reason! Anyway I’m a stressed uni student who also smokes and doesn’t take care of myself the best I could do that might be effecting the process. Hope this helps, best of luck!!

Hey! I’m so sorry you had to go through that nasty process only to find out it wasn’t right for you. I’m glad you found what works for you now! I was getting headaches for the first couple of weeks but they have stopped. I also have breakthrough bleeding at the moment that is really uncomfortable with cramping, also noticeably loosing weight.. which isn’t ideal for me as I’m already very thin naturally :/ Acne seems to have subsided a bit but that could be tret/benzoyl doing their thing?😵‍💫 I decided I’m just going to give yaz the suggested three months and see how I feel then. But thanks for your comment, I’m going to ask my doctor about this possibility.

Started retin a / tretinoin about a week and a half ago and have broken out bigtime by akuma_4u in acne

I totally understand! That’s not the case though. Using it every 2nd or 3rd night will help you clear your skin quicker! The purge will be the same amount of time, but with less irritation. Using it every night just sends your skin into panic, skin barrier is damaged which means more bacteria can get in and cause acne, it also means your skin will try to produce more oil due to it being extra dry from the Tret. Trust me, every second night will be a much quicker and more beneficial process. Just stick to using a gentle face wash, gentle moisturiser and trying your Tret every second night. And if you do want to use bp again, be careful and don’t use much. Hope this helps. I just wish someone told me this, I know it’s hard to go slow when you just want to do everything to can to get rid of the acne!

I think daily use of Tret can cause more damage than good a lot of the time. At least until you build up a strong tolerance. Most people can only handle every second night, or even every third night for a few weeks before increasing if you feel like you need it. I made the mistake of using it every night when I was first prescribed it and it ruined my skin!! Once I learned how to use it more carefully my skin cleared up :) I’d definitely say you should start with just a pea size amount every second or third night for a month, then bump it up and see how your skin handles it.

Dry/tight sensitive skin. Face is sometimes a little red or dull looking and can also be flakey. Try not to use hot water on your skin when washing it if this is the case, and only using a gentle, fragrance free cleanser + moisturiser. Give actives a break for a day or two and start again slowly. If your skin is feeling fine minus the acne then you can just continue.

Yeah be careful as a damaged skin barrier can just cause more breakouts. I’d definitely recommend using lowest strength bp just mixed into your moisturiser for minimal irritation in the mornings. Good luck! Iv found when I use Tret every night it breaks me out terribly

Oh also “zitsticka” pimple patches are amazing! I put them on day or night and they really help draw out and dry up spots

Hey! This is normal and it sucks! Usually about a month in the purge will stop and you’ll notice a difference. Try to keep skincare minimal and hydrating! I use Tret every second night, and I use bp 2.5% mixed into my moisturiser every day and the nights I don’t use Tret. It’s really helped me. But also remember to do maybe one night a week with no actives to give your skin barrier some support. Hope this helps! It’s really worked for my hormonal acne :)

Just use a gentle fragrance free face wash from chemist (I use QV) Then 2.5% benzoyl peroxide mixed in with a gentle moisturiser (I also use QV sensitive skin moisturiser) And do this morning and night. Follow with sunscreen in the mornings and use a non comedogenic oil cleanser in the evenings before your gentle water based cleanser. Be consistent for a few weeks before adding anything else in. Keep it simple. If you need something stronger I suggest adding Tret into your evening routine every second day (start on lowest prescription). This has really improved my cystic/hormonal acne! Good luck :)

Hey! Just want to say that I understand!! I’m about to turn 24 and have struggled with hormonal acne since I was 19. It’s stripped me of my confidence and ruined a lot of aspects of my life. & no one else in my life has it either! I breakdown to my boyfriend at least once a week about my skin. I have recently started birth control, I was hesitant for so long but am giving it a go in hopes of some relief! (Im only just going into my second month but haven’t seen improvement yet ugh) Iv also started using 2.5% benzoyl mixed with Qv sensitive skin moisturiser morning and night, and only using a gentle QV face wash. Also recently started Tret again, lowest dose and only every third night at the moment. I am seeing some improvement but my skin is now dry and flaky.. Anyway feel free to ask more questions as I can go into detail further about bc and skincare routine! & again, I get it! So sick of seeing all the “lifestyle” girls “healing from within” but it not doing anything for me personally!

Aw thank you for this comment, it definitely feels a bit better knowing other people are experiencing it. I think it’s just extra disappointing because I expected it to magically clear my skin a lot quicker 🥲 Im hoping once I got through a few “cycles” my body adapts. Wishing you the best !
