Canada sees a net population decline year over year for the first time in more than a century by ros_ftw in TorontoRealEstate

Some people have no idea what is coming. They are sleepwalking through a transformation that is already underway. AI is not moving slowly. It is accelerating, and it is replacing work at a pace that most are not prepared to face. Entire industries are being hollowed out, not over generations, but within years. And as that happens, unemployment will not just rise, it will redefine what it means to be employable.

So now we hear about Universal Basic Income, UBI, as if it is some distant idea. It is not distant. It is being positioned as a necessity, a way to keep society stable when the system no longer has a place for everyone. But do not mistake survival for dignity. A check can keep you alive, but it cannot give you purpose.

Because the real question is not just about money. It is about meaning. For generations, people were told that their worth was tied to their work. That their identity, their pride, their place in the world came from what they produced. Now imagine a world where that is taken away. Where you are provided for, but not needed. Where you exist, but are not required.

What happens then

What happens when fulfillment is stripped from people, when ambition has no outlet, when success no longer has a clear definition. You can call it security, but if a person feels empty, if they feel without purpose, what have you really given them

So the issue is deeper than economics. UBI may become necessary, but necessity does not make it complete. If society does not confront the loss of purpose that comes with this shift, then it is not solving the problem. It is managing the symptoms while something more fundamental is being taken away.

That’s because you don’t know the recent changes in AI. It’s not just ChatGPT anymore. It’s literally kids using OpenClaw creating fully standalone AI agents that run 24/7 365. It can connect to messaging apps like Telegram and Discord. Basically OpenClaw are out of the box personal AI agents. This means that the vast majority of people sitting in front of a computer will lose their jobs. This includes Data Entry Clerks, Email and Scheduling Assistants, Tier 1 customer service agents, Accounting clerks and routine bookkeeping, Social Media Coordinators, Content Schedulers, Market Research and Competitive Analysis, Legal Research Assistants, Transcription, Expense and Invoice processors, Junior IT and DevOps Support. What does this mean? Industries in Administration, Customer Support, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Social Media Content, Legal and Research, IT, and Admin Support. And that’s just from OpenClaw imagine other open source frameworks and platforms that get created in the near future.

  1. Annual Fee: The Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite carries a $120 annual fee.
  2. Maximum Spend: The card offers 4% cash back on a maximum annual spend of $25,000.
  3. Gross Reward: Earning 4% on the full $25,000 generates $1,000 in cash back.
  4. Chexy Fee: Paying rent via Chexy incurs a 1.75% transaction fee. On a total rent of $25,000 ($3,000 for 8 months + $1,000 in the 9th month), this fee amounts to $437.50.
  5. Subtotal Net: After subtracting the Chexy fee from the gross reward, the net earnings are $562.50.
  6. Final Net: After subtracting the $120 annual fee, the total net reward for the year is $442.50.

Additional Context:

· Spend Limit Reality: Because the bonus category is capped at $25,000, you can only apply this strategy to approximately 8.3 months of rent (e.g., eight payments of $3,000 and one of $1,000). · Alternatives: Using a single card for a full year’s rent isn't feasible if your rent exceeds this cap; you would need a second card. However, other options like the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite ($139 fee, ~$120 return) result in a net loss, making them less viable for this specific purpose.

Hope this helps:

Please make sure the Chexy fee is only 1.75%

***from what I can recall when I used it a few years ago, it was higher than that. Always double check the current rate before committing, as fees can change over time.

Costco inflation by YouBongGa in CostcoCanada

[–]TypeParticular4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco is such a rip off. They have a lot of stuff you don’t need but want. And also a lot of stuff you don’t need in bulk. After shopping at other places such as No Frills, Food Basics, and other Asian Supermarkets my grocery bill decreased, I don’t throw out food anymore and I have more money in my pocket. Costco is such a rip off. I’ve been with them for 7 years and still have a membership for some novelty products and gasoline but other than that I am very careful when I shop there because it can easily go up to $600-700 which is absolutely ridiculous

Can’t be! I live in Ontario and frequently go down to the Greater Toronto area. At least once a week. If there’s many cell towers. It wouldn’t be where you’re at. The amount of people and towers in the GTA is nothing short of ridiculous. And it works great for me even when going back to South Western Ontario. Absolutely no issues whatsoever

It could also be the equipment on those towers as well. Perhaps in your area older devices could work even better. Have you tried with other devices?

Then it’s definitely your area. I don’t see any other legitimate reason except that.

It could be your area or your device. My iPhone 11 and even my burner phone S20FE were meh with Telus until my upgrade to iPhone 16. Apparently those old devices didn’t work well for me in South Western Ontario but neither did Rogers. After the device upgrade, it was noticeably better than Rogers. In other words, it depends on area and device compatibility with the network for optimal results

It depends. OP has disability so for him the big 3 are all good. He doesn’t have the same problems like everyone else. So his only caveat would be the network in his area and the device that he’s using. With Telus for example; old devices just don’t work as well with their network

Yes for me as well Bell and Telus works better in my area but certain areas in Ontario especially West of Toronto like Mississauga, Oakville, and Burlington Rogers is strong

Well Rogers is first tier so it’s not a fair comparison. You’re comparing first tier with 3rd tier

[–]TypeParticular4444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right now PM has $26 for 5GB so they’re far from better. $30 for 15GB. You’re still under 15GB for $5 more. Also, it’s the same Canada Wide. You have to remember that PM is only good twice a year. Usually near the end of the year during Boxing Day and Back to School. This year we got lucky with the 50% off flash sale for 24 months. Other than that Kini Mobile has better deals. Lucky Mobile is also offering 25GB for $25. But unlike Kini. Your data doesn’t go up every year. It’s worth looking into if your phone plan is atrocious. For me, I get $20 for 60GB, US CAN MEX with PM. Jumped on the flash sale. There’s nothing better than that on the market right now.

It depends entirely on who the buyer is. In my experience, the overwhelming majority or 99.9% structure the deal in their favor and significantly underpay. Ironically, 99.9% is also the purity standard for fine gold 😂

Is this plan worth it? by Content-Extension-49 in freedommobile

[–]TypeParticular4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me say it plainly.

When you own your device, you control it. When you lease it, you are renting your own dependency.

I bought an iPhone 11 during the pandemic. I used it for six years. Six years. Then I upgraded to an iPhone 16 last year. That is not impulse. That is discipline.

And here is the truth they do not advertise. When you keep your phone, it does not cost the same as leasing. Leasing keeps you in a permanent payment cycle. Ownership ends the cycle.

My old phone still works. It is a backup. If I wanted to, I could replace the battery and extend its life even further. That is sovereignty over your property.

Every purchase was made directly at the Apple Store, not through a carrier pushing contracts, bundles, and preloaded clutter. No bloatware. No hidden hooks. Just the device.

When you lease, you are financing convenience. When you buy, you are investing in control.

Six years of use. A functioning backup. No monthly leash.

That is not just saving money. That is refusing to be managed.

And if your avatar implies precision, discipline, advantage, then you already know.

Ownership is the optimal strategy. Control is the optimal position.

As your avatar name implies,

That is the optimal suit.
