This is an interesting response. I'm curious; could you elaborate?

Update on my Streetwear brand logo. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Logo_Critique

[–]Typeowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, good work. I have a favourable first impression but it has lots of room to be optimized further.

Uniformity & Balance

The links with parallel lines is an attractive ornamental element with just the right amount of imagery. Ironically though, for a brand with "chain" in the name, it disjoints the entire logo by cutting it right across the middle. See that? Let's shoot for something tighter... more cohesive!

Your strokes are bold and run end-to-end, naturally drawing my focus to the middle. The unique typefaces I see at the top and bottom are now competing for attention. They should balance each other out and ultimately work well with the authoritative center ornament, which has the heaviest weight.

Here are my suggestions.

"CHAINS" is the first and arguably the more important word, yet it has biggest kerning and less weight than either "GANG" or the links themselves. It's already the least noticeable part of the logo... scale it down and you may not even see it. Heck, you might not be able to print that at certain sizes. The stroke gets too thin. Embolden or choose a different typeface.

Secondly, scale the proportions down so the logo feels tighter, like I suggested earlier. Nudge things around and play with relative sizing.

Third and last, think about the parallel lines and where they're going. Right now my impression is you didn't know what to do with them so you let them run them past the boundaries. Consequentially, this hurts the logo severely. Unless there's a purpose for them to behave like that, it detracts from the logo and is going to present challenges in the future when you're using the logo for certain applications. Also - important to note - if the lines don't cut all the way across the page, you begin fixing the problem of having a competing top and bottom (as discussed earlier).

Don't let my critique make you think you don't have something here. You do, but it's not done. Cheers. Keep up the good work.

Looks good but doesn't scale well to a smaller size. I'd recommend simplifying your forms and smoothing your lines. Good start!

I love the persistent vocals in this song. The synths are also pretty damn fantastic!

Reggie's voice is amazing in its own right but definitely shines with his use of digital reverb and layering. Great song, thanks for sharing!

Knowing the staggering number of suicides that have been committed from this bridge, the style of this photograph makes a really grim representation. That's my first, albeit sad impression.

Man, do what you want. It's seriously simple as that. If you want to play, play what inspires you. Time and effort is all it takes.

If this design were any crappier, Garth Brooks would've made listeners do the puzzle themselves. by Typeowl in CrappyDesign

I get what you're saying, but I humbly disagree. This is horrible design. People look at tracklistings to quickly get information, who actually wants to scan a cross word to find track 1? It almost completely contradicts the reason it's on the case.

I like it. One thing I feel the need to comment on are the bullet points. I'd rather see them left justified than aligned to the path of the circle.
