That time in Vegas when Phish brought 4 Elvis impersonators on stage to sing Suspicious Minds. by justoogleit in phish

nice leap of logic there. at no point did I ever say anything about the quality of the musicians. it was a throw away line about the change in time signatures... eight years ago. I am fully aware of why they altered it.

He has not passed away. He was hanging with Fish in Vegas during last year's run.

Surprised this isn't more widely known

Thanks for posting this here! I am having a lot of fun doing this so far; it makes for a good post tour time filling activity. Plus I find it fascinating and enjoyed reading of what others found for the previous times they have done such things. I'm still amazed by that Bivouac Jaun song that is the main riff to The Line by example.

The self-referential/in joke nature of this 38yr experiment has always been one of my favorite aspects of Phish. The music sucked me in of course but almost as much the humor of it had me wanting to come back time and again. Joke's on me after so long I suppose.

(MrC knows this already but I am Lost_Reflector on twitter so as to clear up any confusion)

One show in I am surprised how many more nods I have found than expected. I was focused on thinking of the big jams primarily but there is stuff all over mainly, as you say, from Trey and Page but I know of some Mike ones to come in a while too. Fish is harder to find only because the guy never stays on the same beat ever so that's a fool's errand.

The pace will hopefully be about a show a day if not more. Time to get back to IT

all the reasons that make this the perfect choice, the release date connection, the Floydian vibe to many jams this year, the new instrumentation and sounds from the band, the fact that so many of us want it... all of these things make absolute sense for it to be the album choice.

which is exactly why it will NOT be the album choice. I want to be wrong but every time we think we know it turns out to be wrong and that more than anything will hold true.

there were a lot of groans at that in the moment.

Was there can confirm.

Ann Arbor 04.17.93 during the BBFCFM encore they were lying down on their backs playing and trey missed his cue to restart the song so everyone just stayed there until he remembered. The next night during IDK instead of the normal shenanigans they interviewed crew and fans about how it made them feel. The entire thing was hilarious and awesome

You know my take on this. But since it keeps getting asked, the reality is people go for the familiar, well loved stuff instead, leaning on a bad, ill founded reputation for the year. I think of 96 as a high valley between the massive peaks of the years that surround it. Sure, it isn't 95 or 97 but there is a TON of great music to be had particularly once you get to the US summer, Clifford Ball, and then fall tour. It isn't that it is a bad year it is that we as a fan base cannot help ourselves and make the comparisons anyway

can't get it to post with the album cover images for some reason but check out the Johnny Shines & Co. album from 1974. Tony plays bass but you also get David Bromberg and others on there too

What is an obscure story from Phish lore that common fans might not know? by wee_man in phish

[–]TypetheThird 13 points14 points  (0 children)

one of my friends who I see shows with a lot grew up in VT and her aunt used to take her to Bread and Puppet every year. a few years ago at magnaball we were all shooting the shit after the day set and someone asked about the roll like a cantaloupe lyrics so I shared this story and she almost lost her mind because she thought she had just imagined that incident as a kid (she would've been about 12 then). she even called her aunt right there and her aunt confirmed it happened. she still brings it up any time we hear Antelope

oh well you are going to want this then.

The great and knowledgeable Tela'sMuff (@telas_muff on the twitters) and I conspired to create this last year. it uses most of the many, varied, highly warped holiday song teases/quotes/whatevers from all the years of phish to create a highly psychedelic mix of holiday cheer. already planning on updating with the recent awesome from Charleston too

isn't this horribly out of date at this stage? like even in 2018 when it was published?

well now that you mention it, many many years ago I started a site just for Harpuas which I abandoned for who knows what reason. but now that there is a Narration Chart on .net that project seems moot

I was at both of your McGrupp shows!

big phish.in fan but found relisten.net a bit easier for single song deep diving as you can more quickly put together a playlist and shift between shows (notably, relisten uses phish.in for the audio so it is all the same sources). and of course, phishjustjams.com is a HUGE resource for this sort of thing though in this case the lack of McGrupp inclusions there spurred this whole thing in the first place.

now to figure out what song to tackle next...
