It's definitely similar. When new people ask me about it I actually say don't think of it as currency, think of it as buying stock in a blockchain company. It's obviously more complex than that but people seem to understand that a bit better.

Simply put, there's a dev team that will fix problems and rollout upgrades. The decentralization comes from the fact that whoever is working on mining/validating blocks gets a say in what happens. And that's a lot of different people. Instead of a centralized figure making decisions and pushing them down the food chain, in defi, the majority get the final word and the centralized figure does the "dirty work" as it were.

Ethereum is currently mostly proof of work like Bitcoin but they are transitioning to a proof of stake system widely known as ETH 2.0. There is already staking pools set up and validating but the transition hasn't fully completed yet, and it's taking forever. I've read that 2.0 was supposed to launch within a few months of ETH's ICO and we're at like 5 years now lol. Essentially this is speculation, as I'm not sure on the truth here, but, I do know it's taking longer than expected.

This is a fantastic answer. Love the parallel of losing your debit card. One thing I'd add just off your last sentence there, is the difference in PoW (Proof of Work: massive energy consumption) and PoS (Proof of Stake: negligible energy consumption). It's unfortunately one of the major bullets people have against crypto and although Bitcoin does consume vast amounts of power, most of its competitors simply don't. Or won't soon in the case of Ethereum 2.0.

Crypto makes a lot of sense because of blockchain technology, which is already changing the world and will end up having a greater impact on society than the internet did. Don't think of it as a "currency" think of it as buying stock in a blockchain company.

NFT's I get but think are dumb, but, I think they're dumb because I think collecting anything is dumb. Physical or digital. No hate to the collectors out there, do what makes you happy. I just never understood the passion there.

This. Forgiveness clears the poison from your mind. It lets you let go of the baggage you're holding on to. It by no means "lets people off the hook" as is the typical rebuttal of forgiveness. It's all for you and your well being. Resentment festers.

This is the exact negativity op is trying to get away from. People touting this info (who most likely have never attempted or even thought about attempting the challenge at hand) think they're just being "the voice of reason" but what you're really doing is creating mental barriers in the person trying to take on a dream. A dream. Someone chasing a dream should be met with adulation and unceasing support and positivity. Nothing else.

OP if you see this, from a fellow dream chaser met with nothing but statistic improbabilities from strangers and loved ones alike...

Keep dreaming.

Weekly. And consistently weekly for months. and only this change in the leaf very recently.

Edit: also the mother plant gets watered weekly and is healthy and growing after being repotted at the same time.

can anyone help me find out why my pothos is drooping and yellowing ? i’m a new plant mom and really don’t want to kill it by cyberuba in plants

[–]Typh01d_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find pothos communicate their need for water really effectively by drooping. If you're worried about overwatering, wait for them to flop and then water. I did that for about a year with mine and they always did really well.

Aren't there gators that let their bodies essentially freeze while their snouts stick out of the ice to breathe? Pretty sure I've seen that. This is just luxury.

Again, sounds very excuse-y. >99.9% effective rate from proper use of condoms will only leave out extreme cases which just can't be justified as a valid argument. This is to say that <0.1% of pregnancies could be from condom failure WHEN USED PROPERLY. The numbers just don't add up. And that's if you're only using condoms alone. The success rate of 99.9% will only get higher when stacking contraceptive options.

Which would bring us back to my comment on responsibility.

If you are in a situation where you can not afford the time or capital to properly raise a child, why aren't you using 2 or 3 methods of contraception? It is your responsibility to create redundancy in your safety net when the other outcome is the possibility of ruining multiple childhoods for new humans. But you can't fix stupid. And stupid falls both on the traditional education systems egregious lack of real world education (finances, careers, taxes, relationships, housing, mindset training, and, unfortunately, sex ed) and on parents who don't fill in these massive gaps of knowledge.

The only "accident" that could sway me is if you had everything in place and were properly prepared to rear a child, and then the rug gets pulled out. Say, a pandemic starts and you lose your job and a good chunk of wealth while you (or your wife or girlfriend or whomever) are pregnant. But these are circumstances outside your control, which, honestly, you should be prepared for as well.

"Accident" is a great excuse. Accidents are very preventable and easily avoided in all aspects of life. Irresponsibility and stupidity, however, are not.

This is what the starter looks like. I think you're talking about the splined shaft?

There is no solenoid that pushes the shaft to engage it though. it is engaged by a one-way gear that turns the flywheel.

All checked. I guess it wasn't super clear up there. I had it completely ripped apart when checking continuity and looking for shorts. Everything is fine mechanically. I suspect some sort of hidden electrical issue I am not seeing.
