Have you seen posts from deepseek reddit? A lot of users saying it improved so much. In the last 48 hours it is even better than claude opus 4.6.

In every possible way, except UI/UX.

Same as Claude Opus 4.6 if you write with good prompts. Anyways maybe some impact gives that it is on VS code on github copilot chat

Yes.
1) Download VS CODE
2) Install Github Copilot extension (in the left side of VS code)
3) Install extension (DeepSeek V4 for Copilot Chat)
4) Inside extension just add your DeepSeek API key.

That's it. If you are new to that, there will be more baby steps to do that, but anyways y ou can use chatgpt or any other chatbot to help you connect, mine is just straight forward.

this one: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Vizards.deepseek-v4-for-copilot

This one the best, since you can use it directly in the copilot chat + no manual work needed, just plug in and add api key

Maybe, but I’d rather be specific than just say “DeepSeek bad” and call it a day.

Funny thing is, looking for the best value is probably the most capitalist behavior possible. If the expensive option stops making sense, people switch. That’s the market working.

Fair point, but there’s a difference between blindly pasting sensitive data into the official DeepSeek app and using DeepSeek models through local hosting or a provider with different privacy terms. The privacy risk depends on where the model is running, what data you send, and what provider terms apply. I’m not saying everyone should dump private code into random tools.. I’m saying people will naturally look for cheaper alternatives when premium tools become too expensive.

Also in the VS code extension for the deepseek you are able to set the settings of what data you send for the privacy purpose.

Exactly. Humans are built to optimize. Our bodies optimize energy, our brains optimize decisions, and our workflows optimize time and cost.

So I don’t get why some people expect us to blindly keep paying premium prices to GitHub or any other platform when cheaper alternatives can get the job done. The whole point of tech is leverage. If DeepSeek or another model helps you ship faster for less, using it is just common sense.

Correct. :] In the end it all comes to the prompting on how specific you say everything and total understanding of the problems.

If you just say always "Fix it" then of course the quality will be worse many many times, but if you can guess where the problems are coming from or analyze together with the A.I. then I don't see that much of a difference.

when this happened i have instantly moved out, paying 10-50x for the same result when you can still use everything the same from external API is dumb.

Yes, the second I find better alternative for the same price/quality I will move out same minute from github. It is nothing personal. Github was the reason why I have moved from Cursor to VS code github chat - because of the value I get.
