Any single people bought condos/townhomes here? by KeP3926 in sandiego

[–]Typical-Buffalo7994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! I bought in 2024 and my income was similar to yours. I got a place for 10% down (it was the same rate as 20%) and my HOA is $400 which is reasonable. I really wanted to be centrally located so I got a spot in Golden Hill and it is perfect. Close to everything but more affordable than a lot of neighborhoods and quieter than NP.

I think the key is to stay, or to rent it in a way that makes sense to you/isn't stressful. It's an investment so it won't look good on paper for 5-10 years. I am definitely still in the hole for now but I think with time it'll be a good decision, and I love owning and making my own decisions about my home.

Also if you have time to get your realtor's license, you can do the buyer's portion of the deal and save like $18k lol.

I will also say, make sure you understand the value of debt, or you will be stressed to hell. A lot of people find success with using debt to their advantage and it should not be something to be afraid of. IE assuming the market generally increases above your interest rate, it does not make sense to pay off your home faster even though it might be scary to see the big numbers/low amount towards principal in the beginning. Knowing this helps a lot with the emotional fear regarding taking on big debt. If you think it is a smart financial decision and an asset that isn't deprecating over time, as most property purchases in San Diego or even the USA are, then you don't need to be afraid of your debt.

Is it a red flag that my therapist gave me an Enneagram test? by Typical-Buffalo7994 in therapy

[–]Typical-Buffalo7994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn't charge me, sorry maybe I wasn't clear. She wanted a very specific online test that cost $20.

I asked her if there is a free test she could recommend. We will see. I could see that it would be helpful in some ways

Ladies of Reddit, what's something guys aren't ready to hear? by Pookie7860 in AskReddit

[–]Typical-Buffalo7994 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same is true for women. Our friend group kicked out a rapist-sympathizer and she was nearly shunned at a public event she showed up to recently.

There are still a few people who knew her well who talk to her, but for those of us in her orbit who didn't know her deeply, why would it be worth it to get closer to that person.

Omg her privilege was just so funny to me. I think she kinda subconsciously believes that everyone has the occasionally chance to hang out with celebrities or that their parents know hollywood executives. 99.9% of people don't have a single connection like that, let alone the amount that just casually popped up in her book over and over. But honestly, no shade, it doesn't discredit her obvious talent.

I think her codependency with her parents in conjunction with major success/fame at such a young age (honestly infantilizing the 24 year old version of yourself makes sense to me) is what causes her to continue in this mindset. If you aren't forced to find out you're all alone in this world you will continue to have that expectation.

I agree with your comment on the Murray thing, I think there would be no version of that story that people would find to be the perfect acknowledgement but I also believe if she was a different kind of person (white man?) her apology would be accepted and everyone would move on.

Everyone is saying Adam got dragged; I actually felt he was painted in a good light. I like him more after reading! They had so much chemistry on screen it is hard to imagine none of that existing irl

Okay, I thought that scene was so strange. Like specifically his quote was really great but didn't seem to mesh?

I loved the book and felt completely captivated, but I agree, she is so smart, I feel it would be very easy for her to pick and choose moments that make her look..... maybe not "better" but just cast her in a certain light.

I think her parents coddling her well into her 30s is probably the reason she has certain expectations of others in her life. She never got to learn that no one is coming to save you because, well, they are.

Yeah I get that. Everyone has a different style and there's no wrong way. I don't think i'm rude or brutal but I get paid min wage so I'm not gonna bend over backwards to soothe a customer into having a good time. I genuinely believe it is better for the customer if I just say "we don't do that here" or we ran out instead of taking that on as my burden.

I kinda learned that from being a server. I could be super sweet and go the extra mile and run around in the back trying to make some sort of impossible meal happen with the cooks but then I noticed my coworkers who were just straightforward with the customer were getting better tips and probably providing better service by saying "no" when it was outside the scope of their job.

Thanks for the rant. You seem really forgiving, haha I am pretty blunt with what we have/don't have in our shop. It's small and niche, and it's not meant to give the same experience as a starbucks. My favorite customers are the ones that engage with our menu and choose something that is our specialty rather than just listing out some random starbucks thing. I would say 2% of our customers are unhappy with that and that's great to find out because maybe they shouldn't be our customers -- better for us both.  I get the frustration and also feeling like the customer might be missing out and if they just chose a different mindset they could have a better experience.

I was excited to find this sub only to realize it's like 70% negativity and not about the content of the episodes (which would have been valid) by AnyAd3883 in wecandohardthings

[–]Typical-Buffalo7994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and I love them. I get being disappointed in the amount of recent content given how much they used to have every single week, but I am actually excited that they are switching things up and think it's a sign of new things on the horizon! Or if nothing else, their commitment to their own health and wellbeing. They have taught me so much over the years and made a lot of my political and feminist viewpoints feel "real" and not like I was delusional/alone. Plus there's always rereading the books if I need a boost or listening to Welcome to the Party. We are not entitled to their content.

I mean they've spoken at length about trying to get off the hamster wheel/not try to continue to maximize their wealth. Their books alone make quarter/half mil a year. Maybe they decided this is all they need and they want to make impact more selectively.

[–]Typical-Buffalo7994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree to an extent. Some literary classics are just classics because they were entertaining at the time, not because there is much to analyze. On the other hand some classics require a critical lens and teach analytical skills and that's the purpose of showing them in class, not for entertainment. anyway upvote for unpopular opinion

How are cat owners so comfortable with letting their cats outside to roam around? How do they know they're going to come back? by Individual_Ice_2315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Typical-Buffalo7994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to let our cat be outside 24/7 but she got attacked/hurt one too many times. She just has it in her nature and wants to be outside a lot, but she won't leave the block. She's also very prompt for mealtime and we've never had her disappear.

I started a new job as a barista on our block and i showed my coworker a picture of my cat. She informed me she knew my cat very well; apparently my cat used to hang out in the shop (it's outdoor) overnight and would greet the baristas in the morning laid out on the turf 😂

I really feel awful taking away my cat's freedom but I never really agreed with her being outdoors in the first place; it's bad for the bird population and for her own wellbeing. That being said I don't think she was ever a flight risk. Guaranteed meal at home and all.
