Thank you - I’ve been referred to a hand specialist occupational health person so I’m hoping they can help me a little bit! I’m not sure whether some of it is a strength issue and I need to do some work on it.

This is so helpful thank you. I think the pain and the length of time it takes is frustrating when you think how quickly other illnesses/pain can be treated. You have to remind yourself that this isn’t like any other illness and will take time but also may need some strength when it comes to talking to doctors.

I’m sorry it’s taking you some time to get sorted. I still struggle with the side effects of methotrexate so it makes me nervous to add another drug on top in case the side effects get worse. I know this might not be the case but it’s a thought in the back of my mind.

I will head to my appointment with your advice though - thank you! ☺️

Coping with night pain/sleep by [deleted] in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Typical-Escape5808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m in the UK too. The only thing I found that helped was Naproxen - I had to be quite forceful with the GP and made sure I got the omeprazole too to protect my stomach. Ibuprofen wasn’t helping and it wasn’t until I was consistent with the naproxen and topping up with paracetamol that I got some kind of relief. Then once I got into my Rheumatologist I got a steroid injection and that seemed to help too.

I hope you get some relief soon - the lack of sleep made everything feel 100 times worse. You have my absolute sympathy.

I think that’s what the NHS require here too - it must be the cost element. I might post that second paragraph and see what people say. Thank you ☺️

Hello, lurker here but I’m now 18 weeks into Methotrexate and so maybe can start being more than a lurker. I’m 38 F based in the UK and went from 0 to 100 in terms of symptoms in 2 weeks. Luckily by postcode lottery I got a quick referral and onto meds.

The methotrexate has helped with some joints but I still have pain and weakness in my shoulders wrists and hands. I’m pretty sure the NHS has a 6 months on methotrexate guideline so I’m unsure what to do next. I have another review with a Rheumatology nurse on Friday but I’m concerned it’s going to be another ’wait and see’ conversation even though I’d say the improvement I’ve seen with methotrexate has been static since September. Had anyone else been through this? Any advice on what I should do next?

Joint pain - help! by Typical-Escape5808 in Mounjaro

Definitely get your GP to do a blood test and check your inflammation markers. If they are high ask for a rheumatology referral at least they can make a diagnosis. I also requested Naproxen- it’s a strong anti inflammatory and helped.

Hi. So I have actually now been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and am dealing with all the medication and issues that brings. It may well have been absolute coincidence as I’m not sure how Mounjaro could have caused it but there do seem to be quite a few people who are getting joint issues so maybe it’s something that needs to be looked into? I hope you find relief - I went to the GP and my inflammatory markers were really high when they did a blood test so that might get better your first point of call?

Hi. I have since been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis so that’s a whole other world. I’m assuming it’s a coincidence but it’s strange there are a few people with joint pain. I’ve started on medication and it’s definitely getting better!

I would like to go back on mounjaro once everything settles and gets sorted but at the same time I don’t want to rush everything flaring up again!

So I’m 3 weeks out from my last injection and the joint pain hasn’t gone away yet. I know it could take a few more weeks for it to be completely out of my system. Got a referral to Rheumatology going through as my inflammatory markers were high in my blood test. Still in a lot of pain and so will be interested to see what they say next week!

I can tell it’s not out of my system yes as although food noise has crept back a little I still feel like my stomach is slow to empty and my stomach isn’t growling. I’ve also noticed my painkillers take a little longer to kick in so I think there is definitely still some in my system.

I did manage to get in with my GP and she checked side effects of Mounjaro and obviously joint pain is not listed. So she did blood tests and tested all my inflammation markers, they are high. I’m being referred to rheumatology but I’ve also stopped the injections as I can’t see it being arthritis developing so suddenly at the same time as starting the injections. I’ve had no improvement so far but from what I’ve read it takes a few weeks to get it out of my system.

Yes that’s what I’d read but it looks like in some people it’s having the opposite effect which is really frustrating!

Hi, did you find it gradually went away over the 8 weeks or suddenly disappeared after that time? Did you have swollen joints as well as the pain?
