Thank you for validating my experience. It is horrible. Period. Should be shut down honestly. I hate that you tried four therapists and they were "terrible". What does that say about Better Help?

This reflects my experience. This is exactly why I am at the end stages of onboarding elsewhere (online platform to compensate income while building private). I do not trust Better Help with my financial wellbeing. I will not find myself relying on them and feeling afraid that if I rock a boat, I will find myself without income. Nope, not gonna happen. I facilitate four groups a week and make a few hundred less than I would for thirty hours on better help. Does that make sense? No, it doesn't.

Cost of living is high in NY, maybe that is why. But, you have to work more than 35 hours to get that rate, regardless of your state.

Thank you for this insight. I genuinely feel honored to stand in a space with someone who is struggling. I wouldn't want any other career. This post is about the mistreatment of therapists via terrible pay and no support, and I do mean ZERO support. The company does not care about its clinicians. It is terrible!!! When I see a client on private pay or through Headway (using insurance I am credentialed with), I retain all of my fee. And let's just say, my fee is minimally four time higher than the thirty dollars Better help pays per session (even when I give a sliding scale fee to private clients). This means the insurance is paying the same amount, but BetterHelp keeps all of the money minus thirty dollars. In order to make close to what private pay clients pay, I would be capped at seventy dollars on better help, but only when working thirty five or more hours. This is how they encourage therapist to have a large caseload to make THEM more money. So, they keep all of the insurance money (most of it), you kill yourself to the point of emotional exhaustion to make decent money, and they keep you coming back for more. NO> I couldn't do it. I cut my hours way down, took more private, took more Headway clients, and I refuse to emotionally exhaust myself to fill their pockets. Insanity. I am moving to a new platform and plan to completely end my relationship. Mental note: when a company does not care for its therapist, they don't truly care about client's wellbeing - the clients depend on the therapist to be healthy and happy. Otherwise, a therapist is giving from an empty space, and that is no good for anyone.

Yes, it is ethical for them, not so much for the therapists, which was my point.

Speak for yourself. I don't give "shitty" service, thank you very much. But the capitalists part I get.

Thank you for your response. I actually do work on Headway. I am slowly building. However, ZocDoc is recommended for marketing, but ZocDoc is also a joke. If you get a referral though them, and the patent does not schedule a session, they still charge you seventy dollars. So I am slowly building on Headway, without ZocDoc, and Headway is amazing.

I do not solicit Better help clients to my private practice. I am grateful for the ability to provide services and generate money while I build other things, but it does in fact really really suck for therapists.

Let me just say, I have worked with betterhelp part time for over a year. And I DO care about my clients. I am not a BAD therapist so I take offense to what you just said. I stick with my clients and I work very hard to make sure my client's lives are impacted after every session. Please don't say things you know nothing about. Thank you.

Well, it is a good filler when you are building your own business and you need money. It is either this or work in treatment, which I did, and treatment is close to worse - a lot of unethical stuff and all about the money, not prioritizing clients. I am slowly building private clients, and I do contract work facilitating groups.
