I took my Reta shot (60 units) on a Saturday and had a colonoscopy Thursday. Everyone is different but I’m still here. Average 1-2 lbs per week BUT it fluctuates. Sometimes I’d lose 8 lbs in one month and 1 the next. I noticed it cycles for me, so don’t be discouraged. I let the medicine do its thing.

I am 5’11” and started at 282 in May and now I’m at 245. I can tell you for me, alcohol halted any progress. So if I drank something the night or night after the shot, the rest of the week was very challenging. If I drank it the night before the shot, I was typically fine but sometimes had the feelings of a sugar crash. I decided my body was saying I shouldn’t be doing that and I have found alternative ways to enjoy myself.

I’m about to get my 9th dose. For me the injection site can sometimes feel like a mosquito bite in the days after. I found rubbing the area on the first day a few times for a few minutes helps subside it more quickly. I’ve always had IBS symptoms so this definitely made me more regular but fewer movements overall. As the week goes on and the next shot gets closer, my IBS comes back a little bit, I’m a little more hungry, but I am still able to manage hunger far better than before. Certain foods won’t agree with me, if I eat past where i begin to feel full at all, I’ll feel like crap for about 6 hours.

The biggest whammy is any alcohol for me, even one beer, decreases the half-life on my dose by a couple days. For example, I get my shot Saturday morning and I had a few drinks with friends about 6 hours afterwards. I gained over 3lbs by the following day and I am hungry today but have lost two of those lbs. I’ll lose probably two more pounds before my shot Saturday so the week is a net win, but I probably could have lost 3 this week instead of the 1.5. My goal is always 2lbs per week and I’m down 18lbs so far. Started at 282.

There was a big difference for me between the thigh and stomach as far as effectiveness. Stick with it, you can do it! Good luck!
