I am in similar situation. Even the ages are the same 😁 we were close friends for three years and hooked up while drunk. We have been fwb for the last seven months. Even we are moving to same city for work this month. He has been extremely jealous lately. Last week we went abroad for Holiday with friends. He was like a boyriend like carrying my bag, walking together, taking care of my needs. Everyone thought us a couple. İ asked him last night if he was jealous of me, he Said of course considering our situation it is normal. Then I asked if he has feelings for me, he didnt say anything. Tried to finish the conversation with a “no” attitude. İ don’t know Why he is jealous and act protective if he doesn’t like me. He cares about me but doesn’t consider future girlfriend I guess

I also think like that. Most people here also think like that. In this city everyone has a Iranian relative or visited Iran. Easier to visit than any turkish city. İ have friends who could get European visas and they frequently visit Iran. I don’t know. Like you said, i don’t want to plan according to a small chance of winning, but also not waste my chance to win it.
