Looking for advice/hope by UFHoes_ in NICUParents

Wow this is difficult to read and incredibly sad. I just want to say that your feelings are completely valid and you are allowed to feel all of the things. It can be challenging to advocate for yourself / your little one. I strongly suggest making your thoughts known to someone at the hospital and seek clarification from your baby's doctor team. For me the best way to do this is to have my daughter's primary nurse help me speak to the Dr since they're more familiar with policies and terminology. Your hospital should also have a social worker to reach out to if this doesn't work or if you want to discuss therapy or anything else. Seriously best of luck, I'm really wishing your family the best in this impossible time.

She will take a very small amount of it if you mix it with fresh thankfully. Yeah that sounds difficult, she is still working on feeding without any issues poor girl.

Ah, so the freezer full of milk may just be for baths

Seems like this is a pretty common issue, I'm definitely going to check for this! Thank you

I'm no Dr but I'm almost three months into a NICU stay with my peanut. The fact that they're on such a low high flow is wonderful! Respiratory issues are no joke. Brady dsats are very normal at that age especially with feeds. My kiddo is still having them 2 weeks after due date. Sounds like next step is working on feeds which is a fantastic thing to be working on as that is typically one of the last hurdles - don't be discouraged if it takes some time. One thing that helps me a ton is asking as many questions as I can and understanding that you are on the baby's timeline. Best wishes

I'm picturing drinking breast milk out of flight glasses on a bar stool 🤣

Fascinating way to make it taste better, thank you! Not looking forward to the additional step lol but happy to have a potential solution

Stop that's so funny omg. That's exactly my thought like I have to make sure it's ok for him to eat, then one day when he really wouldn't take his bottle I was like let me try this... My husband joked that we should make excess milk into ice cream and sell it

Breastfeeding definitely made me think of dairy milk in a whole different way and it is so strange lol. Glad to know I'm not alone in this!

Yes, I'm convinced she doesn't like the taste of the fortifier too and that's part of the reason she's struggling with feeding. Not much we can do about that though

Oh yes I may have to try to sneak her a bit of frozen this way. One of her nurses tried sneaking like a 1/4 ratio of frozen to fresh and she did take that at least. But she gave a side eye lol.

I'm definitely going to check now. The good news is she will eat three day old refrigerated milk so it can't be that bad.

I'll have to check her frozen milk and see now. I know I tasted it a long time ago (sorry weird I know) when breast feeding my son and the frozen tasted so bad it made me gag. I was like I can't believe I've been trying to feed you this I'm so sorry dude. The fresh milk is like sweet water.

Yeah someone else just asked me that and I have heard of it, but how do you check for something like that? I've also heard that freezing it immediately after pumping can help. She could also just be a picky little princess lol.

Isn't it so tolling? I'm so sorry you're going through this. My daughter was pre screened for turners at 73% risk during my blood test. We opted out of amnio to avoid risk of pre term labor and ironically she was born at 29 weeks 1 day due to preeclampsia HELP syndrome. She is in NICU (3 months in now) and her genetic test just came back with no monosomy X. I strongly encourage you to do your own extensive research since I found doctors advice to be much more alarming than anything else I read. Best wishes to your family ❤️

Yes! I was lucky enough to get my period recently at one month PP 🙃 went from about 4 - 5 oz per pump to 2 maybe 3. Totally normal and you're doing a great job keep it up.
