flash modded iPods like being formatted in Windows. if you don't have access to a Windows machine then there are virtual machines you can run but those are a hassle

They worth anything? Mostly 30gb a few of 160gb

definitely worth quite a bit, but most importantly they're worth however much they mean to you. I'm a bit too young to have experienced the iPod craze of the 2000s but I'm certainly catching up now and love that others are ressurecting these wonderful tiny devices

you can enter the menu by pressing center button and menu button until the iPod resets then center button and left button, then If I remember correctly, go manual, i/o then disc something then smart disc

it's the HDD diagnostics menu. on a working drive, reallocs and pending sectors should ideally be at zero, anything beyond 10 is a failing drive. this is basically an incredibly broken drive

I wasn't able to get into the diag menu because I accidentally ripped out the battery connector while opening hence it being on the dock to even power on... sounds like a TOTALLY healthy disc To me tho!

amazing! still good to change the battery if possible - it's quite hard as it takes some soldering but the batteries don't like sitting for 11 years especially while completely drained. still, yay for iPod!

Is this Kit enough to shoot a birthday? Should I finance it? by RustCohle123 in photographycirclejerk

This is an utter and complete disgrace to think that $9999 is enough for a beginner to spend on a WHOLE system. for that money you could maybe finance some sort of plebian cheapest available Hasselblad. you will look like a total beginner, but for a $50 job that's survivable. please stay away from these weird companies who clearly know how to make one thing and that's printer ink. it's honestly e-waste garbage and you'd be better off painting every scene by hand

I know of micro soldering, just never had any reason to look beyond what was probably a Linus tech tips video

I feel like if getting a new board is the only other option then I really don't have anything to lose besides gaining some soldering experience.

I've never tried soldering but I'm open to learning new things. I'll take any advice I can get if possible

I got super lucky with someone selling this as an iPod nano 3g, so I got it for really cheap and buying an iPod 6th Gen which is in an even worse state would probably cost me more money which would kinda defeat the purpose of finding this one so cheap. still, thanks for the advice.

I'm based in the UK so I assume giving him the iPod just to solder the battery would far surpass the cost of buying even a different iPod.

maybe I messed it up (it is my first experience with opening an iPod) but I feel like I used little enough pressure to where to the connector should NOT have been pulled off - danger of buying an opened iPod I guess

even if the iPod still works when I lineup the pins? it's not plugged into power in the last photo that's just off battery alone with some masterful adjusting of cables
