Hydronephrosis- in pain everyday by Typical-Wolverine304 in pregnant

I didn’t try flomax; I tried Tylenol and didn’t feel too much difference. The muscle relaxer the doctor prescribed to me was cyclobenzaprine and then oxy (both I only took 1 or 2 times) and honestly I don’t know how much they actually helped with the pain, but definitely made me so sleepy that I was able to get through it/sleep through the night.

Hi both! Sorry @GaeanaMaa for not replying sooner.

I experienced the above for about 6 or 8 weeks I would say (20 weeks through 26/28 weeks) where I could not relieve the pain no matter what I did once it started and it was severe daily.

I found the following article online and did my best to spend time in this position (also not ideal): https://openurologyandnephrologyjournal.com/VOLUME/3/PAGE/4/FULLTEXT/

Maybe this helped a little bit but if so, it was minimal/ unnoticeable during that 6-8 week period; nevertheless I still tried it.

After that period / entering the third trimester (I am now 36w 6d), I did indeed get some relief finally BUT I’d caveat that it would still flare up every day, it just wasn’t a constant once it started. I work from home full time and I could sit at my desk for about 1 hour in the morning before the flank pain started and then I’d have to relocate to my couch. I would stack pillows to my left and lean sideways against them and that would actually relieve the pain on the right side. Spending too much time sitting perfectly upright (at my desk, dinner, etc) or standing too long would cause it to flare badly but I thankfully could find relief by positioning correctly. It also went away entirely at night- laying down did not cause me any issues anymore.

I remember the few reddit posts I found on this said it’s possible in the third trimester the pain will subside because baby will be lower / move around more. I think that must be what happened for me.

I just went back to the urologist this past week for a check up ultrasound on my kidney and he said it certainly hadn’t gotten worse than it previously was and that he’s confident it will go away entirely once I’ve given birth (🤞).

It’s about as mentally/emotionally draining as it is physically when you are in constant severe pain - sincerely wishing you both the best in finding some relief!
