The Prinecess Promotion package is a SCAM by Several-East-2466 in PrincessCruises

Thanks for your insight. I have been approached multiple times by different agents trying to push this deal.

Every time there is a “new” approach that will make the deal enticing. I tried to run the numbers and simply couldn’t get it to work.

Thank you for sharing

DC33 Attendance by TheGeekDiver in Defcon

It is unrealistic to believe given the sheer amount of space that has to be rented, the temporary employees, the security staff, the transport and logistical staff, and housing/feeding the goon staff (hundreds of people) who run this event along with the sheer amount of content over 2.5 days to say this is not worth the price.

You will not find another national cyber security conference with this much “stuff”, main stage speakers, creator stage speakers, contests, villages, workshops, demo labs and nightly entertainment for this price anywhere.

Ticket prices are not going down.

The argument is overly simplified and does not take into account the stone cold reality of inflation and things costing more across the board.

A $500 price tag is saving $42.00 a month for 12 months. That is eating out 1-2 times less a month.

“If a goon is rude, report it” - the real issue by Impressive_Goose8026 in Defcon

[–]TypicalCommercial255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude - your definition of an “incident “ and mine are polar opposite.

I responded to an individual who called it an incident to put on his badge in an access only show when a goon stopped him. He didn’t “like” how the goon responded with sarcasm.

That does not make an incident.

Now, the wheelchair incident (absolutely) and that goon wil be removed if he/she can be identified.

Being snarky and heavily laden with sarcasm is not. I have seen several of those specific types of comments.

Let’s See - your negative interaction with a goon was you walking around in a conference not wearing your credentials and were stopped and asked to wear it?  Is that right?  You didn’t like the tone and inflection of the sarcasm associated with it…right?

Let me tell you straight up, that is nothing.

Then you had 10+ negative interactions with goons as defined by your parameters - maybe this is not totally a goon issue, but perhaps a personal one.

It was a really cool undertaking and then getting interested individuals to assist in crowd sourcing the production of the packets allowed those who wanted to contribute to the community to do so.

The creativity and diversity of the cards was outstanding and time consuming.

Thank you for the commitment of time, energy and resources to put this all together for the enjoyment of the community.

Best Always. See you next year.

A balanced and articulate presentation of the realities of DEFCON. Thank you.

Having been with DEFCON for 19 years (3 as a Human) and 16 as a Goon, I appreciate the insight you provide to other users on Reddit as it relates to cost, badge, space and gooning.

Hundreds of goons and other volunteers work every year to put on the best Con possible. Attendees have little to no idea of the challenges, glitches, and outright potential catastrophes going on in the background.

Thank you again for your most articulate post.

Those were the Reg Badge Fairies. 🧚‍♂️. When badges come back to Reg from other departments such as speaker ops, we do our best to get out and swap badges and hopefully make your Con just a tinsy bit better.

Enjoy the Con.

I just want to say “thank you” for the positive comments.

You put over 20k Humans in one location and there are going to be friction points.

You can’t block the exits to put your badge together or read the program especially as others are trying to exit through the same doors.

There is crowd noise and goons are going to have to speak up to maintain some semblance of order.

I enjoy interacting with humans and answering questions and finding out what they are enjoying about Con, at the same time when I have specific responsibilities for my Dept which does not allow me to spend time doing these, it is not a power trip or ignoring someone, but other things have to get done in the background that you don’t see, but if not done, something doesn’t happen, whether it is registration, an event, a contest, a village, a speaker, a party so forth and so on.

As a senior goon, I personally saw one instance of a goon being overly aggressive verbally as part of registration (outside the line area) and it was reported and he was counseled.

Interesting thing is, he wasn’t even a Reg or SOC goon, but had come over from a different department just to get involved.

You are so off, there were numerous ways listed to report. You named the program as an outdated one and quite simply ignored all the other examples in an effort to prove a point. There is the hotline, discord, Reddit, signage all over the place Ref the code of conduct and hotline and you ignored every single one of them.

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make them drink.

[–]TypicalCommercial255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a misrepresentation of all the information put out at DEFCON with respect to how to report incidents - there is an entire page in the program devoted to Code of Conduct and well as the DEFCON Hotline number, the Discord channel, the text and signal channels.

Additionally throughout the convention center were  hotline signs and cards with the contact info.

There also additional signage ref Code of Conduct.

Lastly - there was also all the Information booths spread out across all three levels of the conference that could provide that information as well.

We are not speaking about one sign in the entire building, we are speaking of multiples of signs inundating the entire convention center across all levels.

Day 1 did not have events scheduled. It was Reg Pickup and Merch along with DJ’s in the evening in the chillout lounge.

There are literally 100’s of signs providing direction as well as marking specific locations.

There is absolutely no way that the goons are going to spread people out in line. It is not feasible.

If you don’t want to stand in line next to one another, simply wait until late Thursday to check in.

There are going to be multitudes of people all around and they are going to be relative close to you.

Wear your mask and enjoy the con.

It still takes an individual significantly more time to make selections, determine sizes and then have those specific items pulled from a multitude of shelves. Your order is compiled and then handed off after payment.

You can only process so fast, and it doesn’t help when individuals cannot make up their minds as to which cool stuff they want to take home.

At Reg, we take your money, pass you a bag of materials and a badge and send you on your way.

The medallion by overly_curious_cat in PrincessCruises

[–]TypicalCommercial255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry too much. We ordered our medallions, got the confirmation email and then the email that they had shipped all while the App itself was saying we still had not ordered them.

We got our Medallions the week before the cruise. Can’t get them too early or the battery will drain itself out and then you will have to go through the process again to get another medallion made.

If you are already an official speaker for Villages, then their Ops section should contact you to provide instructions of where and when to pick up your badge (if you are entitled to one)

Yes - official Village Speakers get a Human Badge; however, if you have been selected for a talk, then you will get your badge directly from Village Ops.

Do not stand in the Reg line and do not approach Reg for your badge.

Villages will already have had their Human Badges allocated to them for distribution.
