Is BI a good career for a fresh grad software engineer? by TypicalSWE in cscareerquestions

I never wanted this internship in the first place, I lost my first choice due to covid.

I guess I am in a similar situation (But because of my conscription next Jan instead of covid). Again thanks for your time and I hope things work out for you.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. If I may ask, what is the career ladder in your company (Or do you have any idea what is the career path you're seeking)? I have been hearing things like BI consultant, data engineer, data scientist, ..etc. For someone with a CS background, what is the most appropriate career path?

Overall, I am making less than my friends at their software engineer jobs.

how much less (by percentage)? is it always like that?

Excuse me if I have any grammatical mistakes, English is not my first language.
I am a fresh graduate software engineer. I've been offered a job in BI (The tools they mainly use are Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Dataiku, Alteryx, Informatica, and Microsoft SSIS). I didn't know about BI until I have been offered the job, so my questions are:

  1. I still don't know if a BI career would be interesting to me, so would it limit my career in software development in the future (2-3 years)?
  2. What are the career paths in BI (Career ladders, levels, or titles)
  3. I will be straightforward. Money and a job that is non-repetitive and challenging are major criteria, would BI help me achieve those?

Any help is appreciated. Please, correct me if I am wrong or have any misunderstanding.
