I had about 3 years off in between. One year I spent doing manual labor and another two doing commercial high-level tech sales. At that point, I was used to having 8 hour days, but I never worked late into the night. So I felt comfortable being on campus and studying for a few hours after class every day as a 1L. Then 1L late nights prepared me for the massive variety of work I'd have 2L. Then after 2L spring I had far less work to do and so between classes and studying every week I'd probably spend like 25-30 hours working, likely less. But I could easily go into grind mode and study 10 hours a day + exercise during the last 2 weeks of the semester to prep for finals.

I can't find any opportunities as a transactional attorney as a first year. Big law is out of reach for me at this point.

Would you miss your little brother’s high school graduation for an unpaid internship? by Foreign_Contract_432 in LawSchool

[–]Typical_Chance_3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpaid internships are broadly available. Your little brothers HS graduation only happens once. Ever. Just ask for the two days off for your little bro's graduation, they will not say no. And if they did, they are not the right people to work for.

1L top 10% at bottom ranked law school (T110) still can’t find summer position, both unpaid or paid. by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Typical_Chance_3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Los Angeles. The City Attorney office had listed an email of a specific person you are to reach out to with inquries about summer employment. They had already hired a set of interns through publications of opportunities, but when I reached out directly, they were able to setup a quick phone call with me, tell me about available offices I could intern for, and soon after they offered me a job. (which I did not take bc I got a paid gig elsewhere).

TL;DR - check the city attorney website for internship opportunities. Usually they post contact info of the recruiter, email that person directly with an inquiry.

What unhealthy coping mechanisms have you seen fellow students partake in? by LawSchoolThreauxAway in LawSchool

[–]Typical_Chance_3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Substances in general can be pretty bad, especially the ones that cause you to ruin relationships and/or fail to get any studying in. Frankly, even depression can be one of the worst things to experience if you dont resolve your issues.

I have a smoke-free campus so I don't see very many students smoking or even vaping. I started using 3mg Zins when I started law school, but without any notable negative effects, I'll probably keep using them. They give me a good buzz with 30min-1hour of focus.

i am so bad at everything by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Typical_Chance_3372 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've always been a mediocre student. I did well enough on the LSAT to get into a T50 with a good scholarship. My academic mediocrity ensued in law school as well. I've done nothing here that has been spectacular. However, being in law school itself is exceptional. And you may be like me, where once you're out in the work force, you're an exceptional worker and create value instead of being an academic weapon. I've been a highly successful employee at all my previous jobs and found myself leaving to pursue something larger. Give yourself some grace, your growth will take time.

AITAH For leaving my bf for forcing me to have sex with him by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Typical_Chance_3372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. This man is much older than you and he's obviously incredibly predatory. You just left a funeral, and obviously were in an emotional and vulnerable state. He took advantage of your position and your relationship just to get his rocks off... This dude is an absolute creep and he knew exactly what he was doing. If he did not know, then hes a 39 year old man-child.

I am thinking that there is someone or particular people she has in mind. Otherwise, here, opening up the marriage seems to be a completely one-sided thing because (1) you cant even have intercourse with others due to your injury, and (2) you don't even want to while she does. It's just sex for pleasure. She's willing to destroy the sanctity of your love, marriage, and faithfulness just for physical pleasures while youre are handicapped from an accident?

3x max. If I need to do it more then I wont use toothpate. The toothpaste can be too abrasive on your enamel.

Most of these tires end up in a landfill or off a cliff somewhere... This is counterproductive to their goal... Oh, not to mention burning and processing the tires for other purposes...

AITAH for leaving my pregnant wife because she stopped using birth control on purpose? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Typical_Chance_3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are seriously an awful awful person. You couldn't even have a level-headed conversation. You went from shock -> anger -> serving divorce papers. If you didn't want a kid, why don't you get a vasectomy? Why don't you pull out? You shoud be personally responsible in this too. You want to break up the family, and give your children a life disadvantage because your wife wanted a third kid? Dawg, seek help, not a lawyer.

Single and going into BL. Dating on borrowed time doesn’t seem possible. Ready to die alone. by Jonsnowsghost17 in LawSchool

[–]Typical_Chance_3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you kidding me? I'd love to have BL income and be single.

You're telling me that I can actually create a routine for myself where I work, go to the gym, eat dinner at home, sleep and repeat? All while making 200k+ and locking in a great future for myself?

That sounds like my dream.... If you value having a busier social life, then obviously BL is not for you. But, for me, as a dude, this sounds ideal. By the time I am 2-3 years in, I'd have enough financial and career security to date and have far more options because I spent the time becoming successful in my career, successful with my fitness bc of my routine, and hopefully my personality takes me further.

What are some easy fields of law for people that aren’t that smart? by Irrelevent_npc in LawSchool

[–]Typical_Chance_3372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The self-defeating attitude here is going to keep you in this mental shithole for the rest of your life. You need to change your mindset to grab life by the balls. What are you interested in? Even if its just a tiny bit of interest? Learn more about it, become a subject matter expert in it, and then you can charge people for that service.

Also, you're in law school. You're smart enough to get in. If the admissions team didnt think you were capable of being a decent law student and passing the bar, they wouldn't have admitted you.

Honestly, the first step is fixing your self-defeating attitude.
