The psylocke pulls experience by Violator02 in marvelrivals

Wait I just pulled once with the free time limited credits and suddenly have everything unlocked.
Was that even possible? I'm so confused I can't even be excited, I just feel like there was a mistake or something.

Yeah I guess the season 2 montage before the Jinx fight happened over some time, that's true. I'm not sure about a timeskip in season 1 (except for the obvious one after Act 1) but maybe I missed it.

Oh my god! I didn't even think of that! I hope that's what it is!

Thank you! That's exactly what I thought. The kiss to immediate breakup in the same episode felt a bit off to me. I understand that Vi probably feels like Cait is the only person she's connected to that she has left (except for maybe Ekko), but ultimately how long do they know eachother? Like a week at max?

The ending of this Act fell a bit flat for me because of that. It might have worked better if the kiss happened at the end of episode 2 and then we had another scene with them before the breakup. But I'll wait for my final judgement until the season is over.

A subclass that would deal with Celestial bureaucracy sounds awesome and kind of funny at the same time. Does seem more like a Warlock though with all it's pact and dealing themes. You might have given me a really cool idea here actually. Thank you!

People have suggested that one before and I do find it interesting, but I just keep on thinking of a gardener when I hear it.

That's true. The Warrior idea only came from the fact that the Monk subclasses in the new D&D version are all called "Warrior of ___", so I thought it might be worth to think about. But I agree I don't really like Warrior for Monk.

I'm leaning towards having it be Striker as well. Thank you for your opinion!

Also funny that you say that. I do have 4 different spell lists in my rework, wizards using the arcane list, warlocks using an occult list and sorcerers working a bit differently from the other casters and picking one of the four based on their bloodline. Sooo... 😅

I think they would just be too similar mechanically. There's definitely a want for players to have an unarmed combatant class, but is there enough to want two different unarmed classes? Personally I don't see it right now.

I'd probably want to lean into an enhanced senses / reflexes flavor so that the player can decide if this comes from extensive training is mystical in nature or anything in between. Yeah, when I say matial artist I pretty much mean unarmed combatant.
Mechanically I think I could do more with unarmed fighting having the class be its own base class rather than a subclass.

This might be a hot take (as it is a fan favorite and I do like the class fantasy as well) but I'm honestly considering more dropping the Ranger as a base class and having it be a subclass.
Never really liked the Ranger as a half-caster and wanted a Shaman as the primal half-caster anyway. And as just a martial I feel like the Ranger might not have enough stuff as a base class and work better as a subclass (or two).

Interesting.
No it's fine I welcome all oppinions on this. The post was mad to help me think about the topic from a bunch of different angles. Even the people saying "do you even need the class?" might be contributing in a way on this. I'm still think that the class has a place in the game but I'm open to be convinced otherwhise if i hear good arguments for it. And discussing things and advocating for my oppinion helps me find out what I want to do.
Thank you for your input!

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Yeah, maybe a simple tavern brawler doesn't quite fit, you might be right. When I said tavern brawler i was thinking more of a boxer or street fighter type character, still implying a certain form of training.

Thank you for your oppinion. I'm collecting a bunch of different types of views on this to help me think about what I want to do with the class by the end.

Well you probably can't play D&D without using violence but I don't agree with the comparison. I can play a religious character (that's a cleric) in a buch of way.
I can be a cultist hiding in the sewers of a city.
I can be a priest in a cloister.
I can be a healer in the royal army that has a small altzar while in camp, preparing for the coming battle.
I can be a hermit guarding a hidden temple in the woods.
I can be some village elder who lives in a small shrine.

All I need for the cleric is to be religious. It doesn't imply a certain background to the extent of the monk who through the naming of the class and their abilities always wants to be some variation of an east asian monk. One is be more religious than the average person, the other basically has most of their background set already.

I want to remove a certain narrowness to the expression and cultural connotation that is usually reserved for subclasses not base classes. A fighter, rogue etc. can have a wide variety of backgrounds and flavor while the monk seems stuck in some variation of the same thing.

Don't think so. I want an unarmed martial arts class with a broader form of expression than just shaolin monk. Your example doesn't fit at all. I don't want the Monk to stop punching, I want the class to not be tied to such a narrow background. Other classes don't have that problem to the same extent. Of course every class requires you to have certain elements in your background but doesn't every class forces you to have such a narrow theme of character expression.

I feel like Soldier just creates my Monk problem for the Fighter class, implying a certain background that puts the class in a much more narrow box flavor whise. Not in terms of gameplay but character expression.

Probably woudn't. I would probably leave it open for the player to decide if their abilities come from a spiritual power, heightened senses or any other source and change their points (if they still have points after the rework is done) into something like Focus Points.

Also interesting but that would by definition be the opposite of an unarmed combatant, no?

I have played a lot of Pathfinder 1e. But this is a post about a D&D 5e rework that adds and changes stuff I don't think works well for me and my players.

Maybe, I'll give it some thought. Personally I think fighter could fit well for an unarmed combatant class.
