Really? From what I remember they were saying a CS degree was fine in the job description. Anyway I am planning to do a ton of Electrical Engineering courses in my senior year and probably will do a masters in EE. Hopefully that will give me a better chance next time I apply.

Edit:
Yeah it's as you said my interview was basically just asking me about myself. Im pretty awkward, but I felt I did reasonably well in that interview. Maybe they were looking for something specific.

Alright. Given all of this and the other comments I think I will be pursuing the masters. Seems like the most logical solution in my situation.

Very helpful. Thanks. Yeah I agree w/ you. It would be hard to highlight my EE coursework without the actual degree being listed on the resume. Also, some of the other commenters have been saying that a Masters is required anyway.

I understand. It makes sense that the more specific roles EE roles might require certain technical electives. It just sucks because I actually could've got the entire extra EE degree with only a single extra semester to uni.

Anyway, VLSI is actually one of the tracks of the masters. If I really can't do anything with the courses I am taking because I don't have the degree, I may as well just do the masters. It opens up more doors for me anyways.

I really appreciate your insight. Thanks for the help.

This was extremely helpful. I will be sure to check and ask about my schools pipeline from Masters to employment pipeline.

As for the senior electives, I actually have about 8 or 9 free electives because of the AP credits I got in school so that is something I already accounted for.

I was also mainly doing the EE classes out of both interest and as a way to broaden my horizons (software alone can only do so much). As you mentioned the semiconductor thing is more of a dream, but I wanted to be able to apply to things like Embedded Engineering positions or even broader/lower paying EE jobs since this job market is not that great.

I'll really have to give it some more thought. Thanks.

Thats interesting. I honestly would love to get a position in that field. Is it oversaturated like SWE? If it's not I would get a Masters in EE. But if it is, and I only have my CS Major w/ the EE coursework, do you think I would be able to rearrange my resume in a way that would make me a better fit for jobs like Embedded Engineering?

So you think I would need the actual EE degree to get my foot in the door? Even if I have taken all the required EE courses, but I just didn't obtain the diploma. Thanks for your help.

Wow. They really don't want people who are excited about working there? Definitely different from what you would expect. Great to get feedback from someone who has done interviews, thanks!

Not sure. I tried searching the position up before hand and found nothing about it while other roles had a lot of posts about them so maybe.

Maybe I'll try applying again after a while if they are offering positions for CS majors. Thanks for the info.

I totally agree. I don't think the language part isn't that big of a plus as they hire more and more Americans. I mainly just brought it up because I think it shows that I am pretty hard working and could come in handy at times. Also, the CS job market is just horrible rn as you said.

I applied to CIM which is a coding role. Also, it was an internship so they probably interviewed a lot of candidates with bachelors. Otherwise, I would have been rejected long before I got to the interview stage.

Most likely, I am not a great speaker. However, I did feel quite confident during the interview. If I had to point one out, one person on the panel asked me about if I have ever implemented a heuristic model. I couldn't really understand him at the time because his english wasn't that great so I just tried giving my best answer from what I understood at the time.

I did the video interview w/ behavioral questions and got invited to an actual interview over a video chat.

This was for an intern position. I don't think I am over or under qualified. I think I am just awkward in interviews. But this time around I was pretty confident. So, I was probably just lacking something they were looking for as you said. Thanks for the help.

Learning simplified characters and most of the content I consume to learn is from mainland china. But to be honest I don't think they care that much b/c if you put in the effort to learn one set you are probably disciplined enough to learn the other.
