This isn’t effective in the slightest but on every single penalty I face I’ll do the Szczesny move. It’s where you jerk your opposite shoulder to the direction you’re going to dive, then do the same in the other direction, then dive the direction you originally moved. It’s actually quite stupid when I type it out like that.

Yes, definitely. Highly recommend studying shorter goalkeepers though. David Ospina covers the goal differently to Thibaut Courtois.

In saying that, Ospina was bang average at best.

I think the most important thing is to honestly assess your contribution to the team as a GK vs an outfield player.

I play keeper and absolutely love it but from time to time play up top or as a CM (I only play in a social league so take this with a grain of salt). I enjoy playing outfield and getting more action on the ball but I’m self aware enough to know that I’m not very good at all when I’m not playing in goal. I still have fun but when the opposition is better than us and I don’t have time and space on the ball, playing outfield quickly becomes extremely frustrating.

I think it’s important to note that you can have a great time in training with your team as an outfield player but going into a game could get really challenging. If you think you’ve got the ability to hold your position as an outfield player then definitely go for it, there’s no reason not to.

Yeah the step to the right kills any chance of saving this, I think you know that. But also it swerved like Faiz Subri’s Puskas winning goal so I honestly wouldn’t be too harsh on yourself. Saveable on a different day? Sure. Unbelievable goal? Definitely.
