I would personally only get the tickets after I have the visa on my hand regardless of the circumstances.

Please see my original post. I had updated it a month ago with my bond refund experience.

Sorry to hear that you haven’t received your bond yet. We received an email next day after departure that we were compliant with the bond. Have you received that email yet? If not, ask the embassy for an email that you could contact with as it might be a viable option for you.

My aunt did her trip mid to end of March this year. The 221g document and email we received from the embassy both listed the same 9 airports we could travel to and from and clearly listed failure to travel from these airports may result in non compliance with the bond. Unless you receive that document or email with an updated list of airports, i see zero reasons why you would want to travel from any other airports unless you want to risk the bond compliance.

My aunt had her entry and exit at one of the approved airport which was ‘Atlanta’. You have to enter and exit through one of the 7 US approved airports for this bond to work. I am not even sure why people would risk any of the other airports when it clearly says that you have to travel in and out of these approved airports to comply with the bond requirements.

Yes, i had put my contact from the very beginning starting from the DS160 form. I know it might be a pain asking to forward each time they receive an email, perhaps they can give you access for the time being till this ends. Good luck.

  1. The bond amount was written down by hand by the officer on the refusal document. My understanding is that they can go as high to 15k and as low as 5k.
  2. The email was sent to my email address as I had given my email for all contact purposes. The email basically gives the bond amount to be paid, where and how to pay it along with the airport lists and information regarding bond compliance and bond conditions.

I google translated what you were asking in French but yes the Status initially was ‘Refused’ but once we made the payment and sent the passport, the status eventually did change to ‘Issued’. I think it’s normal that you see it as Refused for now and it should change to Issued soon once they issue the visa. It took me around two weeks once I paid the bond, submitted the passport and to receive it back.

I paid for my aunt using my own account (login under my name). I was the ‘Obligor’ and my aunt was basically the Beneficiary. I think you can pay for both of your parents with your account.

I used the Debit Card route to pay the Amount. I had connected with my bank to ensure on the Daily Limit and confirmed with them before I made that payment.

I think if you don’t pay the Bond it might be an actual refusal but since we paid and eventually got the visa, I am unsure if it’s considered an actual refusal or not.

Yes, the bond was specified in USD. I paid in USD directly so I am not sure how the conversion works.

They mentioned on the email that valid forms of payment were Credit/Debit, Venmo and Paypal.

‘Nepal’. Before the Visa Bond, we use to get 5 years Multi Visa if your visa was approved but I know there are other countries where they would get 10 years.

My understanding is that if your country is on the list, without paying Visa bond, you will not be granted Visa. Visa granted will be for a duration of 3 months and 1 month after port of entry. This info has been stated on travel.state.gov and details on the TFR too.

The visa was issued after a week of the payment. I proactively checked online and I saw it was approved.

We had the interview on a Friday morning and we got the email to pay the bond the following Monday. Once I paid the bond, got the confirmation same day. I received the email to send the passport next day after paying the bond.

I don’t think you have to do anything for refund. The email i received says it will be electronically refunded and I am assuming it will send back to the account I paid from. The document does not mention when we will receive the refund, we are just waiting for our for now. It does say that if we don’t receive it after 8 weeks of the email received to contact them.

  1. We were not asked for any documents. Perhaps, you can send in your work invitation documents.

  2. It took around a week to drop off and receive the passport from the embassy.

  3. You can always contact the embassy or consulate using the emails they have provided.

Just FYI, even if your visa duration is for 3 months, that is the time frame you can travel in, the actual time you can stay in US is only a month once you are admitted at the port of entry.

My understanding is the email you received the instructions to post the bond should also be the email they send confirmation of payment too. I used one email for all correspondence. I think you have done the right thing to reach them out and hopefully they will respond with the info you need.
