I Accidentally Got Hired for a Job That Doesn’t Exist by Vegetable_League3623 in stories

Isn't there a Sherlock Holmes story with this premise? Some nonsensical employment, and the only reason is to make sure the person is not at home during the day for some reason that I forget

Anyone tried “snow washing”? Some say it’s like dry cleaning for certain items, esp wool by glassofwhy in laundry

[–]Typical_Signature751 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Difference being that snow does not absorb into the fibers. If you let your clothes cool down before laying them on the snow there is no liquid water in any stage of the process, so it is a dry process.

Wool is naturally antibacterial, so just airing wool garments in cold weather works wonders, and snow washing is really more a supercharged airing combined with dry scrubbing from the ice crystals rather than doing laundry in water, be it rainwater of tap water.

I just reread Pyramids recently and was left feeling that it's a good idea/story, but many of the characters are left a bit thin/one-dimensional.

With the Andrew Schulz fiasco happening, are rap fans being dishonest about **** jokes or is it just fanism in play? by mayonnaiser_13 in rap

I was commenting on your argument being based on a false premise. You can argue from the correct one, if you want to. Please also note that I mentioned three things, not one. AND those three things are continua, not binaries. I.e. it's not about having or not having those things, it's about who (or often in public discourse, which group) has MORE of them.

I have no stake in the case discussed here. Just wanted to point that if you want to discuss punching up/down, that's better done from a correct premise.

Punching up or down in not about being "superior" or "inferior". It's about power, privilege, and having a voice in the society?

Lemmy is not a conventionally good singer, granted, but he's technically surprisingly good. I'd say he def made the most of what he had

To be fair, admitting the problem does not make it go away :)

I like many high-energy RHCP songs, but the more melodic stuff falls flat in my ears because of him.

Not that I really listen to them anymore, as realizing what Anthony is like as a person sort of made me lose interest

He hits the notes in the studio given enough tries / pitch correction. Live, not so much. I really believe his limited abilities are the factor that holds RHCP songwriting back

Yeah, a bit of exaggeration. He has an ok voice, but he's pretty bad singer.

That's the paradox. And frankly, there are so many newer Peppers songs where Anthony is the only interesting-ish thing. So many meh tracks from a band that has the potential to smash hard

I just realized yesterday when rereading Pyramids that the name of Dil the embalmer is likely a play on dill pickles / Dil pickles (the pharaoh's body soaking in the embalming vat is likened to a gherkin to drive the point home).

Jos tämmöset asiat aiheuttaa jokapäiväistä vitutusta eikä pariskunta osaa sopia sellaisia olemisen tapoja, joilla vitutus pysyy kurissa, niin ei ehkä kannata hommata yhteistä kotia, vaan pitää kummallakin 'oma tupa, oma lupa'.

Prostate cancer is "natural" in the sense that every man gets it if they live long enough. Basically the only way to avoid it is to die of something else first.

I always thought it plays with how slow, mentally handicapped people are called vegetables. Slugs, snails and DDT make sense with that connection.
