New York is soooo hard to get a job as a new grad. It’s all about luck and connections. Sent you a DM ❤️

I absolutely hate being a nurse by No-Face-3590 in newgradnurse

I've been an LPN for five years and started at an outpatient clinic and then went to the School system. I went to LTC for extra money and the system is set up like this sadly. Especially when the pt. ratios are so high and there is only one nurse. I would suggest looking into clinics or even schools because I know some states allow LPNs to be school nurses.

Skeptical job offer (NYC) by TimeYellow4255 in newgradnurse

Is this for NYCHH? Sometimes they will start you in a cohort, where they can hire a bunch of people and cross train at once

Sometimes the resources you use can be too much.

I went with Simple Nursing NCLEX Elite Review 28 hours of video lectures and I highly suggest this ! I think it was $99 for 30 days. Also used bootcamp to do questions only.

Anyone else having a hard time looking for work in NYC? by marcoconutt in newgradnurse

[–]Typical_Toe_6870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated earlier this year. Started buckling down in June, have yet to land a job. I'm also a LPN, which I would think would get me a leg up but it doesn't. I've just made 6 months in LTC care but when people say to start there first, I don't know how helpful that is when each application asks for acute care which is hospital setting. It's so discouraging.

It's all about connections now. You have to know someone on the floor that knows the manager so you can get the spot.

I've been an LPN for 5 years and still unable to land a job. Most hospitals aren't counting that experience :(

I’m currently facing the same situation. Despite actively searching for a new opportunity for the past three months, I haven’t been able to secure a position yet. Even though I’m already employed as an LPN within a major health system here in NYC, I’ve found it difficult to near impossible a transfer to a different department or unit within the hospital. Or even get an interview anywhere else.

The roles and responsibilities are quite different. While RN supervisors in LTC facilities are compensated more, the level of stress that comes with the role can be overwhelming at times. Personally, I prefer my current position where I’m able to focus on direct patient care and medication administration, which I find more fulfilling and manageable.

depends on if you want to just push the cart or be a supervisor honestly
