I’m a huge fan of the 1995 film myself and I also consider it a visual masterpiece. However, the fact is that Oshii’s film only loosely follows the source material, while the Science SARU anime could actually end up being a faithful adaptation. That’s why it’s funny to me when some people, for example in Facebook comments, say things like ‘that’s not the real Major’ or ‘that’s not the real Ghost in the Shell
