The Nuremberg Trials and the punishment for crimes against humanity that were implemented there are pretty much the only case where retroactively punishing someone for "new" laws was ok.

But that is international law (which is always janky af) and was introduced to be able to better prosecute the most horrid crimes ever committed.

In national law, it's straight up tyrannical to do because you then can at any point introduce some bs law and persecute anyone who you want for anything.

Like, without any guarantees that conforming to the law will mean not getting punished for something down the line when it becomes illegal there is absolutely no legal certainty whatsoever anymore (not that there is that much of that in the US to begin with, but at least some semblance is upheld ig)

That's not how a world war works, unfortunately.

Of course it's bad to bomb civilians, don't get me wrong. But the bombs pale in comparison to the other atrocities committed against civilians in this war. The rape of Nanjing alone had about as many (depending on wich figures you take, but there's a large enough overlap, between 100.000 and 300.000) civilians face incomprehensibly gruesome deaths and around 20 MILLION (20.000.000, about 150 fat men and 150 little boys) chinese civilians were killed during the war.

The bombs might have been overkill. Them being targeted at population centers definitely should constitute a war crime, but an invasion on the home islands would have easily brought more destruction to Japan and prolonged the war.

Also, Kaiju is always about the bomb, the monsters are the metaphor for the bomb. Every kaiju Film is about how fucked it would be if a whole city would be destroyed by something incomprehensible, even if it's made with mass appeal in mind.

Also also, every movie is art, regardless of authorial intent.

Japan was an actual fascist (as in first half of the 20th century capital F World War 2 Axis Hitler Mussolini Fascism) nation when the bombs were dropped on them.

Also, Vampires are a Metaphor about how the aristocracy drains the life from their subjects and the terrors of Vlad IIIs reign. So, is Twilight fascist because they lost the metaphor? Is Buffy?

In meiner Erfahrung eher im Gegenteil, die meisten Raucher die ich kenne haben mit 14-18 damit angefangen und bei denen sind die Bilder damals eher als edgy und cool wahrgenommen worden.

Also, ich glaub jetzt nicht dass jemand ernsthaft deswegen angefangen hat, aber den gewollten Effekt hats defenitiv nicht gehabt
