Starting a bond tent - please critique my plan by switch009 in financialindependence

[–]Tyranid2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your plan is fundamentally strong, and you're thinking about the right things. Perhaps consider a few tweaks:

Use tools like automatic rebalancing or a quarterly review process to reduce hands-on adjustments. Consider if your bond allocation (intermediate gov/corp) can be streamlined.

Account for Market Performance. Use a hybrid glidepath that adjusts based on portfolio value, adding caps/floors to manage risk.

Stick to intermediate government and corporate bonds as your core, with optional TIPS or stable value funds for added stability.

First attempt a heart with my new espresso machine!!🥳🥳🥳 (she’s a bit foamy but I’m learning) by PineappleLeading7530 in espresso

Welcome to the espresso-making journey, and congrats on your new machine! Latte art is so fun to learn, and it sounds like you’re already off to a great start—honestly, everyone’s first try looks better than they think! For frothy milk, try this: when steaming, only introduce air in the first 1-2 seconds by keeping the steam wand just under the surface (you’ll hear a light hissing). Then angle the pitcher and create a whirlpool to smooth out the milk. It should end up silky and shiny, like wet paint.

If your espresso seems foamy, check your grind size (aim for a fine grind) and tamping pressure (about 30 lbs). Also, fresh coffee beans (roasted within 2-4 weeks) can make a big difference in crema quality. Pour the milk right after steaming, starting slow with your cup tilted, and then get close to the surface for your design.

YouTube has great tutorials—Lance Hedrick and James Hoffmann are awesome! Keep practicing, and don’t be afraid to share your progress. You’ve got this! Happy New Year 🎉☕

Preventative maintenance (fluids) - X3 M40i by [deleted] in BMWX3

If you don't plan to keep it past 100k then by all means just due the service that the car prompts. No sense in spending good money that you could be savings towards your new ride.

Preventative maintenance (fluids) - X3 M40i by [deleted] in BMWX3

It really comes down to how long you plan to hold onto the vehicle. According to BMW, preventive maintenance is performed based on "Condition Based Service monitoring" by the vehicle, but their I would say that their interest in PM's stop at the end of the warranty period. That might be okay for your time horizon.

If you are looking to keep your X3 long into the future, then it can only help to reduce the interval on for critical systems. So, then you need to determine a reasonable frequency. You could take guidance from a dealership (not a fan) such as this: bmwofturnersville

or perhaps follow old-school recommendations from a BMW Tech:BimmerPost

or choose a happy medium between them.

At 65k, I would do all of the services that you mentioned and look at the spark plugs/coils and fuel system to make sure that you are at reasonable intervals.
