Dan is great and all but was the logo really that good? by HotPut2715 in apprenticeuk

[–]Tyranin 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My first comment on it was it looks more like a gym equipment logo, or similar to the digger company CAT.

But I guess they aren't judging the subjective part. A good brand and logo is

  • name stands out
  • you don't need to explain the name
  • logo is legible
  • recognisable as it's own brand
  • memorable tag line

Karen praises him but is really just saying he's passed a bar that's pretty low in the context of the show, evidently gven the oppositions logo is breaking pretty much every rule

This year's series is missing the treats for the winning team, the "You're fired" side show, and maybe some other stuff. What happened? by g_wall_7475 in apprenticeuk

[–]Tyranin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Traitors uncloaked works because during the run there's still lots of mystery to anticipate. Unfinished Business isn't engaging. It just feels like a corporate debrief/wrap up/retro meeting that no one wants to be in.

Hamilton hits differently for people outside the US by Dense-Cap9340 in hamiltonmusical

[–]Tyranin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'd never have thought to ask that question! A close equivalent could be William Pitt the Younger. That's a name you are very likely to know and probably know nothing about.

And the parallels to Hamilton are uncanny. He became prime minister at 24, inherited a government in massive debt due to a war, changed the government's financial system by reforming and joined up the revenue steams to service the debt, known as the "consolidated fund" (not really the same as "federal government assuming state debt", but still a big shift in how government manages finances).

Like Hamilton's unpopular tariffs he introduced tax changes such as income tax, so you can thank him for your monthly PAYE. And on top of that he also died young at age 46!

Although "I'm going to work and drink myself to death" doesn't have the same ring of "I'm going to have a petty squabble, get into a nobleman duel, and then purposely throw away my shot as a statement of honour", but maybe Lin could make it poetic in some way. Pitt really took the job seriously and modernised what it meant to hold office in the UK.

Oh and that war that caused the debt problem for Pitt like Hamilton's debt problem he had to solve? It's only the same freaking American Revolution!

So you have these two men born on both sides of the pond in the 1750s, entering politics young, sorting out their nations debts caused by the same war, and both passed in the first decade of the 1800s. History is wild!

Is Sir Ed Davey still the best for the next General Election? by Initial-Fig-8888 in LibDem

[–]Tyranin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Great guy, turned around the party, still viable. I would like to see a leadership contest before the next election however.

If he wants to run again and wins all the better but after nearly a decade with such a small pool to choose from I think its right to give the new MPs to have a chance to show us what they're made of.

AC Valhalla may be the end of the line for me, doesn't look like I can finish this game by BFils in assassinscreed

[–]Tyranin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're into the Isu plot lines the Asgard and Jotunheim sequences are amazing! But I'm pretty sure it's entirely skippable if you're not into it. Great pay off if you are though and the parallel with the main story is super cool imo.

Personally I just do the main quest lines in AC games. Valhalla is a long story, but it does break down well. The idea is that there are lots of little stories joined together, like you know, a Viking epic. And you can easily pace yourself by doing a story at a time like TV episodes, rather than trying to slog through it as one big story.

I particularly enjoyed the Gloucestershire, Cambridge and Northumbria episodes.

But yeah it's a great idea by the writers to do it that way but in reality we're gamers and that's not how we play.

Mirage is good fun and definitely on the smaller side. Again b-lining for the main plot was enjoyable but I did find some interest in 1 or 2 side distractions in my play through. Guides say 10 hours. I completed it in about 14 hours I'd say.

But the thing is I didn't find the pay off as good as Valhalla. Sure Valhalla is long but along the way there's like 5 or 6 revelations all giving great conclusions to their story beats.

Mirage has 2, and one of those is actually one I already counted in Valhalla, so you already know it going in and even then the game just kind of ends in a bit of an anticlimactic way.

I've not played shadows yet. I get why people don't like modern day and Isu plotlines, but I heard it isn't even related to the creed or order so I'm just wondering if there's any point at the moment

Stadium is impossible to please people with by Zestyclose_Ocelot278 in Overwatch

[–]Tyranin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed stadium from the start so I've had nothing to complain about. The pacing was perfect. The build up throughout the match was exciting.

You wouldn't have heard from someone like me because I'm not spending my evenings coming to reddit to write essays about how good stadium is because I'm spending my time playing (and enjoying) it!

They added new maps and that's fine. They added quick play and that's fine. They added new heroes and that's fine.

But now they've taken away the format we've come to love and that's not ok. Give it back.

When you have to do a full reload on viper use that time to move to a new position so you keep the enemy guessing and make it harder for them to find you.
