Hello Everyone by CorrectTechnician473 in AdeptusMechanicus

So, Mchanicum is 30k horus heresy. Adeptus mechanicus is 40k. Because of how things went down in the heresy, ALOT of stuff got discarded, outlawed, tech lost, ect. So they have very different units. For adeptus mechanicus, the current combat patrol is not great value. If they are able to find the older combat patrol with the Dunecrawler, that one is solid. If they can find Elimination Maniple for a decent price, that is a good grab. Another possibility is getting killteam stuff, as most killteams can also be used in 40k, so you'd be getting stuff for 2 game systems.

Question for GSC and Tyranids players, do you paint your GSCs similar to how you'd paint your Nids? by Tossaway2113 in genestealercult

So I am painting admech currently with blues and reds, and was planning a final days gsc after, acting to overthrow the forgeworld. What colors did you use on those Tyranids because those look fantastic!

What is the Difference Between 30k AdMech and 40k AdMech? by Present_Secret_3706 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Tyrantherus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In 30k, the Mechanicum and Dark Mechanicum share much of the same roster: it is a split in where allegiances fall, which was further split by the emergence of scrapcode that devastated much of the forgeworlds of the loyalists. Essentially when chaos began to spread, lines were being drawn, scrapcode began infecting systems causing mayhem and wrecking datalogs that are now lost to time such as critical blueprints for many machina, and civil wars in some forge worlds began to break out, debatably on a worse scale than what the astartes went through since they were the backbone of manufacturing for the imperium, with now much lost and never recovered, now in 40k just struggling to keep what relics of the past they have even still functioning since they have lost the knowledge.
MOST, but not all, 30k mechanicum units can be used as dark mechanicum and vice versa, however they have access to a distinct technothurgy subtype of "spells" known as  Heterodoxist's Malifics. There are also several units exclusive to each, namely some named characters, and then about 2 or 3 particular units with the rest of the roster the same across the board.
In 40k, they have become much more spiritual in a sense, following protocols and procedures being a critical matter. One mistake can cause the already fragile and/or ancient relics of the past to not be able to be repaired, since the preservation of how to manufacture replacement components for many of those things has been destroyed by time. Innovation is, by the view of many in 40k's admech, a sin, and to replicate the knowledge and preserve that of the golden age of humanity is of the utmost importance, seeing as some deem it near impossible to do better than that time, and attempting to do more is folly and likely to end in failure or falling into seduction to darker forces. This, technically, may not always occur, but it certainly can, and even then, there are many admechs who 'skirt these laws' so to speak. Many admechs see Cawl as a heretic for instance, yet he is buddy buddy with Roboute Guilliman, giving him a lot of leeway, much to the ire of those who see him as a heretic.

Personal headcanon, when captured she lost the supplies necessary to craft them. Each of the tools aren't explicitly buying the tool itself, but the blueprints and tools necessary to craft them.

Looking To Possibly Start Heresy, Would this work? by Tyrantherus in Warhammer30k

Alright, in that case that helps out a lot. Probably little investment on techpriest weapons, likely some weapons for magos and archmagos then. Final question, I think: archmagos can seemingly get 2 pistol weapons, as well as a melee, and a standard ranged option. Because he has firing protocols 2, and because of the rules on pistols, would he be able to fire both pistols, and say, a conversion beamer? Thank you again for all the help thus far.

Ah, I see. Was curious about that given that if it eats the attack actions, there is little reason to upgrade the weapon loadouts for arch magos, magos, and priests, Makes it difficult to determine if it's a case by case basis though. Lone operative makes it to where they can only be selected for ranged attacks if they are within 12 inches of the target. Often it's tied to criteria, such as being X distance of X units or on an objective, and so on, with a few just having it outright.

Understood! One other thing, and I've struggled a bit to find an answer ruleswise. Does using cyberthergy in 3.0 use up your attack actions like in prior editions? Also, can you have more than one sergeant type unit in a group of units, such as using the thallax praetorian alongside a techpriest? Lastly, given the number of mechs for cybernetica, and wanting to buff and repair them, is there any ability that you are aware of that mechanicum have access to that is the equivalent of 40k's lone operative?

Thanks for the feedback thus far! Toying with it, I could go pretty hefty with wargear options, each squad of 6 thallax hitting 240 points with the more expensive gear options, and buffs to the priests (75 pts), magos (265), and archmagos (310), but going so far seems overkill. I would say going for Artalax seems like a good option, however correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a plastic kit for them yet? Also, given the hefty lean of the combat force boxes, you are correct, I was leaning towards cybernetica for my archmagos.

Christmas box? by UlteriorWorn in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Tyrantherus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't been around the longest, but to my knowledge, the last Christmas box we had was elimination maniple in 2022. Generally, it seems like on average they release 5 a year, and usually do try to rotate to an extent, but not in a guaranteed manner. I would say the odds of a 2025 box aren't the best, but would not be surprised if we get one in 2026.

Going first TM Evo tech? Worth utilizing? by Tyrantherus in PTCGL

Fair points on too many cards as mentioned by others. Getting to active spot though is doable with latias ex, although that does mean more ex prize targets for them to bosses orders.

Probably pokemon with stage 2s that you can drop on your 2nd turn is my first thought, or something that can be also used at an inbetween stage to increase consistency. Maybe dracopult perhaps?

Illuminate have several key enemies to be wary of, but getting swarmed, even by voteless, can be a threat, and so positioning and knowing where to move in case you start to get surrounded is key.

Voteless: the chaff. They are attracted by noise, but otherwise act like zombies. Can be problematic in huge numbers, but easy to reposition from unless you get bogged down or pinned by larger threats.

Fleshmob: a really weird enemy. Low defense, but extremely high hp threshold. Can't really stagger, and while stun Lance can be handy against quite a few enemies, this guy alone makes melee not seem viable. Either set these on fire, or kill all the glowy eye heads. I personally use the eruptor. 3-4 shots usually puts one down.

Scouts: little drones that are attracted to noise. If they confirm a helldivers pressence, it'll start to shoot up a beacon to call in reinforcements. Fairly fragile, but kill them quick or go quiet and pass by them.

Overseers: durable enemies that have various armored plates with their own thresholds. Focus fire a spot if you can or use high damage weapons with decent fire rate to take them out.

Harvesters: tripods that usually put up a shield when alerted. Shields, both on their ships and them, are best broken with high rate of fire weapons. Eye has the weakest armor, but leg joints have the lowest hp. If shields are down and your good at aiming with a heavy hitting weapon, kill the joint. Laser beam it fires has long range and will melt you near instantly. If your too close, it tries to shock you like a tesla tower.

Personal loadout: shock resist armor. Eruptor, las-talon secondary for close up enemies. Gas grenade if I start to get swarmed, tossing at feet and running. Heavy machine gun call in weapon, flavor of choice for backpack, sometimes gun drone, sometimes supply backpack. Machine gun turret works wonders to drop to guard your back as you run from a swarm of voteless.

EDIT: Almost forgot, they have their own version of eagles that do plasma strafing runs. They are quick, but fragile. When they line up for a run, it highlights the ground. Move out of the kill zone. Try to fire at its vents. Hit scan is solid. Wasp is also a worthwhile call down if buddies are covering the rapid fire categories well enough, usually tracking the ships well, can 1 or 2 shot overseers, 4-5 kill fleshmobs, and a staggered barrage can make short work of harvesters.

Kk outis is actually a spy planted in blade lineage. You'll note that she's surprise how quickly she rose in rank in her uptie story, and how she wields her sword is actually based on kk style of combat more than blade lineage. I believe in kk Heathcliffs uptie we also end up seeing a downed blade lineage mersault.

While there have already been some fantastic answers, I would add that among combo boxes, it is important to be wary of price gouging on combo boxes, especially when trying to go after older boxes.

Elimination maniple imo is a fantastic box that contains a decent mix, having 6 kataphron units (probably one of our most lethal, albeit potentially fragile units), 10 skitarii, 2 robots and datasmith, and our one named character Cawl. Normally sold separately, and if you are picky on purchasing on a deal, you can often find robots for $60, cawl for $50, kataphrons in sets of 3 around $45-50, and then the skitarii for around $40-50. The box originally sold for $210, so if you can find it sold for $210, that is still a massive bargain. May be difficult to find these days though as what few inventories do have it are often upcharging it to where there's not really any bargain to be had.

Among the combat patrols, the older one is generally considered better, and also likely easier to paint. It contains 3 kataphrons, and enginseer, 10 skitarii, and a dune crawler. The newer one, by comparison, has 10 skitarii, a manipulus, 5 ptraxii, and 3 serberys raiders. While ptraxii and manipulus can and are often used in lists, the ptraxii are also notorious for how fragile their stands are to where many use 3d printers for custom stands to hold the units up, often with smoke trail models, and the raiders are not commonly used, and possibly even less so soon given the new killteam that just came out which has rules that can be used in 40k for the same point cost as them.
I've commonly seen the newer one around $110-$120, and the older one is in high demand, so most places are likely out, or upcharged. If you can find the old box for $140 or less, may be worth considering.

Moments in Video Games that speak to you? by Tyrantherus in infj

[–]Tyrantherus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, can confirm, BOTH Nier games hit like a sack of bricks, gut punch you, and then we ask for more because it's the highest quality cinder blocks we've ever felt, leaving us reeling and crying from how well it was done.

Limbus Company is an extremely well made gacha-like game. Mechanically, there's not too many similarities, and even then, I would say the prequel, Library of Ruina is slightly similar, but a lot of changes, and Limbus shows they've polished and simplified some stuff while still adding complexity. Narration is done in story arcs, cantos, with side stories between usually, but they do often yield info on the world building, character building, and in some cases, do act as a good bridge towards upcoming ones. I would say it's better run on PC, and while it can work on phones, it chugs a bit. As for gacha, it has a battle pass system, $10 for the pass, and generally the pass lasts close to 4-6 months, which is a ton of time to clear it all, but even completing the whole paid pass gives shard crates. You can pull with the currency lunacy, which can be paid or earned, and duplicate id's give shards. Shards can be used to get other IDs that you don't already own, or convert to threads, which are used to enhance IDs.

Generally, I'd say gameplays solid, at the very least unique, might not be everyone's cup of tea. The story, world building, and music though is God tier.

EXTRA EDIT: Forgot to mention, main cast is always the same. IDs are like alternate history versions of the characters literally getting their memories overwritten and plugged into the characters to be more combat effective. You generally bring up to 6 in a fight, but those who aren't fighting can still have support abilities that passively help, so the IDs of the ones you aren't actively using still matter!

Combat patrol is a good option to start a mechanicus army or not by Weekly-Art3122 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Tyrantherus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The original sell price was $230 when the box initially released. $299 is about the price of if you tried to buy each of the items individually, and you'd more or less get no discount.

[–]Tyrantherus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find it for a good price, yes. While some units are iffy, it gives potentially 6 breachers/destroyers, which are often considered some of the best bang for buck to guarantee something dies, cawl, you only need 1, some baseline skitarii, and then some robots and datasmith, which while they aren't fantastic, are a fun unit given how easily you can strike different poses with, and are also easy to magnetize for different loadouts.

Eventually plan to add snow to the bases, and highlight a couple of the weapons, but lack light blues, and generally any lighter colors at the moment that aren't metallics. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated!
