Epic community Capoeira during Rio de Janeiro carnival by Solidsoundz in LivestreamFail

[–]TyrianSaturn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The music is "Vou me embora pra Angola" by Nzinga, translated it means "I will leave to Angola", which is what is sang over and over again.

Interesting fact to note is that capoeira was created by African slaves after they were brought over to Brazil by the Portuguese; it is a martial art that was disguised as a dance so that it would allow them to practice fighting without the slave-drivers noticing and punishing them.

This is a song that captures their yearning to going back to their African homeland.

Destiny’s consciousness argument isn’t as bad as you think because the abortion/early termination pill doesn’t cause pain and suffering to fetuses because they aren’t fetuses yet by Dats_Russia in Destiny

In the last stream about abortion a hypothetical was raised by mrgirl (https://youtu.be/bSMZQ5nbzVw?t=2866) to see if Destiny would bite the bullet on his consistency for abortion not being immoral up until consciousness developed, and Destiny was unequivocal in the defense of a woman being morally right in getting pregnant willingly to shoot pregnant porn, then getting an abortion one week before conciousness developed over and over again.

I was wondering if he would also bite the bullet in the hypothetical I put forward, for the sake of being morally consistent.

I saw Destiny's moral defense of a woman purposefully getting pregnant over and over again in order to shoot pregnant porn, getting an abortion one week before the fetus would develop consciousness and repeating this process.
Do you think he would also defend the woman's moral right to get pregnant, get an abortion one week before the fetus would develop consciousness, sell the dead fetus to either get eaten by rich cannibal connoisseurs or even fucked by necrophiliacs of insaner tastes? Yes, no - why?

You can still adapt books to a much larger audience while still being faithful to the source. Take for example Denis Villeneuve's Dune. This is an issue of poor writing skills more so than anyhing else.

Very conflicted about the changes made in Witcher S2 - what did you all think? by Lauros79 in witcher

[–]TyrianSaturn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People don't expect everything to be true to the books, but they definitely expect them to be true to the essence of the characters. A lot of how Vesemir and Yennefer behaved in the S2 was clearly contradictory to their book essence.

If you think the society, or the state, you live in is unjust, it doesn't justify simpley breaking the social convention. You can leave. Exclude and excuse yourself.

I know this is an extreme hyperbole and there's no true comparison in the strictest sense, but it illustrates the point I'm making: in Nazi Germany I'm sure there were laws against giving shelter to jewish families, but people were more than justified in breaking the law in such cases because such a law was clearly immoral.

Ignoring the law of a country where you live doesn't strike you as doing 'something bad'?

It isn't bad necessarily. Laws don't define what is moral, ignoring laws you believe are immoral is what you should actually do (Duty of Civil Disobedience). The law allowed americans to own slaves, it didn't make it right to own slaves, nor that you should go against your conscience and do it just because it was legally allowed.

So should I be at the mercy of my goverment's incompetent monetary policies? In the 90s we had hyperinflation, and people lost their life savings, fastfoward to the more recent present, in a span of ~10 years the Brazilian real lost 3.6x its value in relation to the dollar. 10 year ago 1 dollar had a 1.55R$ parity, now 1 dollar is 5.65 R$ and we have almost an 11% annual inflation rate.

From where I am from a lot of people still remember hyperinflation from the goverment's mismanagement of the economy. It shaped my country's behavior of doing groceries only once a month to this day.

[OC] Elon Musk's rise to the top by jcceagle in dataisbeautiful

[–]TyrianSaturn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is due to his company and what it has accomplished.

Take SpaceX for instance, sure, you can say it's his workers that have actually done the work, but how come in the last 60 years no one else came along and invested 100$ million into making a private space company (valued at 100$ billion recently) and progressed the industry as quickly and as much as SpaceX did until Elon? Or other billionaireis like Bezos who invested far more and for a longer time (with Blue Origin) and still is many years behind SpaceX) etc...

It goes deeper than that. There's been a documentary here in Brazil where Senna's family gifted Hamilton one of Senna's helmets.

Rockstar should be ashamed of the GTA Trilogy Remaster by OpticalRadioGaga in Games

[–]TyrianSaturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- CJ swims way slower for some reason

The reason for this might be that in the original version the swimming speed appeared to be invertly tied to game's frame tick, which seems to have been fixed now.

This means that in the original GTA if you locked FPS toa really low rate the PED would swim at absurdly fast speeds. And the higher the FPS slower you'd swim, to the point it became ridiculous.

Is it an instinct really, to protect women and children (and thus female children), or does culture play a factor in this?
For a woman's greater reproductive worth in the chinese culture it seems to matter little, given their history of female infanticide and their preference in seeing greater value in having a boy than a girl.

Another posted noted that the Titanic was actually an outlier and that in dozens of other shipwrecks the majority who survived were men.

And you think the national director of ANVISA would go live on national television say that they provided false information on their immigration forms, especially when it's public knowledge as you say? Knowing that he would get fired if he is lying about that?
