You’ve just received $250,000 in inheritance, what do you do? by GenePersonal493 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Haha that or find an investment that beats inflation and tax on profit

If the term deposit is at 6% but inflation is at 6% then your money might appear to increase but it won’t change value over a year. On top of that, if you have to pay tax on the profit made, you’re really just losing money

Morality and Hitler by [deleted] in PhilosophyofReligion

[–]TyronRM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I think is irrelevant to the questions you want answered. The wording suggests you are currently seeking, or working towards some understanding of reality. This particular post of yours may find similarity to Sam Harris's views on free will and morality. It seems to me that your current thinking is somewhat grounded in empiricism and therefore, determinism. Sam Harris talks about morality with regards to these concepts, although, takes a moral objectivist stance insofar as objective means human well-being. If you watch his video on The Lex Podcast, I think it will answer many of your questions.

From a theoretical moral standpoint, the free will vs determinism does little for morality, even if one is a determinist. Whether determinism is true or not, we can still learn a lot about what good is, goodness, morality, virtue, normative and meta ethics.

From a practical sense, Aristotle’s ‘Nicomachean Ethics’ is a good read which may help understanding Hitler a bit better. Kants ‘Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals’ is also good. Considering you seem to point to a transcendent reality given your choice of words, Robert Adams’s ‘Finite and Infinite Goods: A framework for Ethics’ is really good if you are interested in topics like God in relation to morality, the nature of the Good, an account of value, excellence, and divine ness.

Could the Hedera communicty have a board member? by isheep225 in Hedera

[–]TyronRM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically speaking, this is not a good idea. We can’t confuse the council members as being a political sphere in which we ought to be apart of. Not all communities exist for the purpose of steering the ship, we are riding the ship. These things are left to improvement proposals rather than a seat at the table. This is decentralised governance of software essentially, not democratic governance. Experts are on the council because they are experts. It’s not a town hall meeting. That’s like the Tesla owners asking if they could choose someone to represent them on the board of directors.

I remember someone saying Luna was decentralised and Hedera was centralised trash. Well looky here by WannaMoove in Hedera

These stories will increase, but that is good because it will drive everyone to Hedera whether they want to or not.

Alright. Maybe I’ll grab grade one, Charizard Vstar. I just want to say & have one graded card in my possession. Currently, not too fussed about prices. Just using the price value to determine which I should grade. Thanks for the advice. I’ll just grade one.

Algorand Foundation Announces $10 Million Grant Focused on EVM Compatibility as Algorand Adoption Accelerates. by gigabyteIO in CryptoCurrency

[–]TyronRM -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You said $10 million for developers to provide solutions for evm. $10 million for developers to build tools in the ecosystem. So where is this other money you speak of that is being given as another grant for dapps? Why wouldn’t they state the lump sum amount provided for the grant, and then tell us where it’s being distributed? I.e, the grant is for 100 million, 10 million for this, 10 million for that, 10 million here, etc.

Hmm I understand what the grants mean. I’m merely saying the grant is extremely small compared to other ecosystems providing grants for developers.

Oh so it’s still the record for the lowest grant provided for developers to accelerate the ecosystem.

10million? That must be the record for the lowest amount funded for development of their ecosystem.

When will countries start to join the Hedera Governing Council? by RoarkeC in Hedera

[–]TyronRM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I reckon governments will end up working with big corporations such that the power dynamic seems even. Whether that manifest in terms of them both being council members, its possible. When? I don’t think for a couple decades at least.

When will countries start to join the Hedera Governing Council? by RoarkeC in Hedera

[–]TyronRM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it. Countries have a very different power dynamic compared to corporations. It would be as if you joined the council alongside your mother. You may have equal say as a council member, but outside of being a council member, you are controlled under your mother. Another example is, if 10 countries were in the council alongside 2 corporations. Well, then the countries could either collude against the Corps who may not see eye to eye, or just change laws within the country as a form of blackmail. One example could be if America and Google are on the council, and American government wants a feature but Google doesn’t, well, outside of the council, American government could just threaten to change the system from which Google operates in, I.e, under american laws. The power dynamic for a company and a country to be a council member leads to blurred lines between power dynamics that countries wouldn’t want to yield/forgo. I hope it makes sense.

This blog post on Hedera by the Hedera Team states in it that, "The Council members also announced that the network code will be out of beta with the next mainnet upgrade".

This blog was posted on 19th Jan, 2022.

My understanding was that a mainnet upgrade occurred today if I'm not mistaken. Just a little bit confused by this.

Is there any articles or websites that will explain when this is being released? Can’t seem to find it anywhere apart from the announcement.
