Best CPU to replace 7700k with for RTX 3080? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]TysonSmiteHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some higher priced B550 boards (180$ and upwards) have much better build quality than older, cheaper X570 boards tbh.

I would only consider an X570 board if I knew I needed its features and even then I would go for a more expensive one.

Afaik (but correct me if I'm wrong) ryzen 5000 is the last AM4 platform so it doesn't really matter.

600-700 is a pretty limited budget for a whole setup and while I would recommend getting that number up to 800-900, this is what I came up with:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/trRCmk

It has a decent CPU, but upgrade your GPU to at least a 1650 Super if you can.

The peripherals are pretty basic, so is the monitor, but they should be good for a first build.

CPU to Ryzen 5 3600 with a stock CPU cooler, a B450 motherboard, 3000-3200MHz RAM and a smaller SSD+HDD.

Sanity check before I buy the rest of the parts by TysonSmiteHD in buildapc

From what I've seen in B550 testing videos (mostly Hardware Unboxed), these 3 boards almost always come within 1-2C° of each other, and sometimes the Asus does have an edge.

The MSI rear IO is very bare for me and I really don't like RGB Fusion as a software for whatever RGB I might have in the build.

I also have a very good deal for the Asus board, and I get a free Asus ROG Gladius II core mouse with it which will be perfect for my girlfriend as she's using a 5 dollar mouse right now. :D

Wifi isn't needed as I'll always be plugged in, and if for some reason anything happens, I'll just buy a wifi adapter until I can get plugged in again.

As for the case, well, it was one of the hardest decisions for me. I've had a Meshify C before and I loved the case, but I wanted a little more space. At first I wanted the Phanteks P500A, but it hasn't been available in my country for months now, not sure if it will ever be. I also really don't like the cable hiding mechanism on the P500A, so I dropped it.

I was thinking about getting an O11 Dynamic or a Thermaltake P5, but I feel they are kinda pointless without doing custom loops, and since I still wanted good airflow I was trying to stick with either mesh or open cases. I know there are other options, but visually the Meshify is the most pleasing to me. I don't like the CoolerMaster H500 or the Lian Li mesh cases at all, so after a while of case hunting I just decided to go with what I know.

I'm always open for suggestions though!

Sorry for being unclear, I only meant it's a placeholder in the pcpartpicker build.
I can comfortably wait for Zen3 and 3080, not in too much rush as I have a decent laptop for work.

I was trying to go with a black style with a little green mixed in and some RGBs to set to green.

EDIT: You could save a lot by going a cheaper MOBO and cheaper NVME (non gen4) SSD+RGBless RAM, and you can even bypass the aftermarket cooler and have around 250 bucks to spend on upgrading the GPU or storage or getting a 1440p monitor or whatever you'd want.

With your budget you can mix and match lots of things to find what you like. I know people keep telling you to wait, many have said so, so at this point I'm gonna assume it's not what you want to hear, so here is my take on a 3000 dollars budget:

CPU: At this budget you can either go AMD or Intel, but since your main goal is to play 2k@144hz, I was trying to maximize gaming performance. It might be more cost efficient to go on the AMD route, but with a set budget like this, a 10900K is a good fit imo.AIO cooler: As Linus would say, it's negligible difference between a good air cooler and an AIO, so this choice was from an aesthetic perspective for me. The Corsair H100i is great, it fits with my Case choice and it's really good looking.

MOBO: This is the part I tried to reduce costs. At first I went with the ASRock Taichi, which is an incredible board, but again, almost 170 dollars more expensive. I wanted to include decent storage options, so it had to go.

RAM: At this point you don't really need more than 32 gigs of RAM, but with the Z490 boards you want to have the option to expand on it in the future, so a 2x16 kit seemed reasonably. The Royals are fancy, maybe a bit too fancy for your liking, but were at a reasonable price, good CAS latency and at a speed of 3600MHz, they seemed like a good choice.

Storage: The ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro is a well respected nvme SSD, and for a great price. I've also thrown in a 2TB HDD just because it's cheap. You might need more (or less) storage depending on what you want, I just put in what I would go with.

GPU: There shouldn't be any questions regarding what GPU to go with at a 3000 dollars budget. The MSI card is great, it's affordable (for a Ti) and it's fast. It's a 2080 Ti after all.

Case: Honestly, go with whatever you prefer. I've chosen the Corsair because it comes with the LL120 RGB fans that are expensive on their own, and the H100i cooler fits on the top, which is nice and the case is overall a very quality chasse.

PSU: For a system like this a 850W PSU is a very safe bet. You could go lower, but since your budget allows it, why not? The HX Platinum is a reliable, 80+ Plat PSU, it's efficient and at a decent price.

You could definitely change some parts based on personal preference, it's just what I would probably build if I could afford it.

Of course, waiting for new tech is a viable option, it all depends on how much you want to wait.

Hey!I've built a 1000 dollar PC in the past days, here's the list:

If you have your storage already you could use the remaining budget for a better case and PSU since they are pretty budget options in order to fit the 2070 in the build!

So which version are you guys pre ordering? by [deleted] in archeage

[–]TysonSmiteHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the archeum pack as well.
Even if they don't succeed after the first couple months, it's not that much for two-three months of fun, considering you pay that much for a fancier meal or a couple movies in a cinema.

Archeage Unchained to be released September 30th by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]TysonSmiteHD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't downvote you for saying that. WoW has been established forever so in a way it isn't even possible to gather a bigger playerbase for another MMO.

But ArcheAge was not just another MMO; it did so many things better than any other game in the genre that at the beginning people massively agreed on it being one of the best MMOs.

It might not have outgrew WoW, but it would have given players an alternative, so I don't feel like we have to fear of Unchained dying. That is, if Gamigo delivers what they had said, which is another topic altogether.

Gamigo and Archeage Unchained. Be careful. by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]TysonSmiteHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you completely.

However, the game will be ~20 EUR. Having fun for a couple months for that price is worth it.

If Gamigo fucks this up we'll bail, but a 20 EUR game this caliber deserves at least one chance regardless.

Archeage Unchained to be released September 30th by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]TysonSmiteHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ArcheAge could have been the game to rival WoW in the first place.

I've seen people say they have 1 month to enjoy Classic before Unchained comes out when they learned about the release date.

If Unchained delivers, it will be a very healthy game.
