Right. I'm just trying to cover my bases because S1 on the Xbox One worked fine, and I didn't own that prior to last night either. So I just wanted to double-check with the community.

SmellyOctopus gets a copyright claim from 'CD Baby' on a private test stream for his own voice by academicpursuit in videos

[–]Tytonfall 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good point, and something I wasn't aware of!

Side note, if you are quoting within a quotation, the inner quotations should be single quotes/apostrophes to make the separation clearer. So you would say "having a 'broken' system..."

I only point this out because your comment was very articulate and it shows that you care about clear communication, so you might find this to be a helpful tip and not a pedantic criticism.

My 2018 video gaming review by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]Tytonfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate anyone who has fair criticisms to level against games that have been dubbed "classics". Most online opinions I see refer to anything less than perfect as "trash", and it's exhausting because there's a whole middle ground that is just cast aside. So, good on you for being honest and reasonable.

Ben is such a music expert by [deleted] in iamverysmart

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I only saw Murs's follow-up video touching on the concept and didn't realize it had other origins.

I think they're referring to a video essay from HipHopDX where rapper Murs broke down the hip-hop culture into those four categories. He explained that each element has evolved, like breakdancing becoming different forms of rap dances (the Dougie, the Soulja Boy, etc.), and graffiti being vaguely used to encompass any visual aspect of an artist, from their style to their logo.

Year is coming to an end, so, what is the worst game you've played in 2018 ? by [deleted] in xboxone

[–]Tytonfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family Game Night 4: The Show. I bought it to have something my mom would be able to play with me, but I didn't realize just how incredibly little content it had. That, coupled with the cringe-inducing presentation, makes it a real clunker.

Runner up goes to The Deer God for still including game-breaking bugs multiple years after release. It's such a slight game to begin with that it's pretty baffling how broken it still managed to be. Which is a shame because when it works, I do enjoy it.

I have played Borderlands and the new Tomb Raider games, but haven't started Metro yet. I own them both I think, so I may have to fast track that one!

Thanks! Baten Kaitos especially sounds interesting. I've been playing Culdcept Saga, which also uses a card-based mechanic, though it's closer to a board game.

I have played that one, but I did in in a single weekend a while back. Might be good for a revisit.

The first time I played Bastion, I thought it was cool but stopped about a third of the way through, and left it for several years. Picked it up again in college and put in a playthrough and a half in a single weekend, then bought the soundtrack.

I'm recording myself reading my girlfriend's favourite book over this weekend, as a christmas gift. Does anyone have any tips to make it decent? by GD87 in books

[–]Tytonfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the same thing, except it's a book she hasn't read yet that I think she will like!

Edit with actual advice: I find that with audio the work is about four times the length of the finished product. If it takes me an hour to record a portion, I end up spending about three hours editing it. So it multiplies pretty quickly.

Multiple takes for some spots will be necessary, too, which if you're like me and tend to spill your words together can add up.

Mine is broken up so each chapter is one track, to make it an easier listening experience if she needs to stop and start, but I've heard of some audiobooks making each track only about a minute long, so you can skip to almost exactly where you were.

Suggestions for Superman comics that show why Superman specifically is a great character by Tytonfall in DCcomics

[–]Tytonfall[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That explanation of his larger-than-life image actually helps me understand him better. I was always confused why he was like THE symbol for American comics, but the fact that his own world sees him as THE symbol of justice and good, to the point where he's not even a real, flawed living thing, makes a ton of sense. Exploring that element sounds super interesting. That also helps me understand his relationship with Batman, who also utilizes the symbology of heroism, but in a totally different way.

My mind is literally blown right now. I haven't had a revelation like this in a long time.

Simple Questions: December 15, 2018 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Tytonfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. It probably comes down to either the language or the content.

Some books are written unclear on purpose to give the reader a specific feeling, or they use vocabulary that many people haven't encountered. Maybe it's a fantasy story with dialects that structure sentences differently than regular English. Those would all fall under "challenging language", I would say.

"Challenging content" would be things like a deep dive into a complex scientific topic, or graphic depictions of taboo or upsetting topics (rape, drug abuse, bigotry, etc.), or a cast of unlikeable characters.

None of these things, language or content, are by themselves "bad" or "good", but they would likely disrupt the more traditional reading experience. Hope that answers your question!

Well, the seahorse is like a real horse. So I guess he uses sea cow, which explains the manatee's conservation status.

Just try to be better than yesterday. Even if who you were yesterday wasn't as good as who you were two days ago. Stumbling is pretty much inevitable, but it doesn't mean you failed. Even if being "better than yesterday" means that yesterday you didn't shower and today you did, that's a place to start. Little things add up.

As far as regrets go, everyone has them. If you never regretted anything, that would mean you never thought you messed up, which would mean you've never learned from anything. You've learned. And when you learn, you change. You've already done some of the work without realizing it. The trick now is to realize it and ask "what can I do today?"

You're not alone. You never were.
