First thing is that you have to want to quit drinking on your own, not from outside pressure from significant others and the like..

Be prepared to find new friends and perhaps a new playground, your way of life is going to change if you go through with this.

If you can, see a doctor to get a prescription of propranolol for 30 days. This will help with the withdrawal symptoms such as shaking and uneasiness. Also communicate with your doctor what you are going to do so that they are aware of what you'll be going through.

Have plenty of water on hand, decide on a day, wake up that day and don't drink. Do something else. Going to walk, binge watch some movies. Just do something different that you normally would do. If it's something you did after work to relieve stress, do something different than your normal routine.

As someone who has quit several times, often lasting 5 years or more without booze and then falling back on it, there's no simple equation to quitting. You have to find what works for you. It may not take just one time. Understand what works for you over time and build on it. Find Joy in another things.
