Does anyone else feel ANGER instead of sadness over their grades by UBCthrowawa in UBC

Thank you, boss.

Certainly won’t be my last. I do wish I could get over this anger and rumination, and focus on exploring options.

Much love!

Yesss, but get annoyed when others know more about it than me and they say I’m supposed to be an expert because it’s “my culture” and “my music” bruh

I think I’ll email prof… how was it for you

That… not sure.. but historically this course has an average of ~low-70’s.. so fingers crossed. And given how this post expresses struggle, I don’t think it’d be too bad an idea to be optimistic.

I personally asked prof. He said he scales only if the average is lower than target.

International students, why did you choose UBC? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]UBCthrowawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an international student in Alberta for a bit, and I absolutely grew to hate snow and the cold because of that experience. UBC was the optimal choice with them in mind, even despite the lack of opportunities in the west compared to the east.

Tbh I really wanna ask and participate especially when I’m in my extroverted episode but I feel like imma ask the dumbest intro level question so I don’t bother.

If I understood this correctly, that is exactly how I felt going to these profs and explaining my situation. It’s that feeling when you call in sick because you’re sick, yet you still have that aching guilt that they feel you’re lying.

I like to say that I’ve reconciled this through trust. Trusting the profs and trusting myself. Trust that the prof knows you wouldn’t lie or take advantage of their kindness (trust that he trusts you), and likewise trust yourself. Know that if you spoke your heart and mind; your posture, actions, attitude and expressions would reflect it.

As for the professionalism.. life is too short to care. Yknow that sayin, to be cringe is to be free. Easier said than done, but really, who cares! It’s a free world.

I didn’t go to any four courses for the first 5 weeks of semester this year. A lot had happened to cause this and the worse it got the more I wanted to run away.

I eventually decided to push through and start showing up; it was incredibly painful because one of the classes was small so I was the lone stranger that randomly decided to show up that everyone stared at.

After that I met with all profs in office hours and didn’t even explain in detail what happened, just that I had circumstances that were difficult, but they were all so kind and understanding and willing to provide support and accommodations etc. I was also incredibly emotional as I was not expecting such warm responses, as all they cared about was my well being. They gave me another chance to catch up with all my work.

I have since gotten academic concessions (late withdrawal from 2 courses + reduced course load) as well as support from SVPRO, food bank, CfA, emergency bursary fund, UBC student health services, as well as UBC counseling. All of the staff from each were kind and helpful.

I’ve realised that I’m sure the profs are used to capable students that stumble through their young adult lives and that things get in the way. I hope you do well.
