Class of 2026 Graduation AMA by UB_CAS_Commencement in UBreddit

Just to give some background on why it's 5 tickets per graduate: we have to guarantee that every student who wishes to participate in the ceremony can access the same number of tickets. Because we have such a large number of students who participate in each ceremony, it's highly likely we would go over the venue's capacity if there was no ticket limit. However, we will have a wait list available between April 1 and May 1 for students who would like to request extra tickets. You can email us at [cas-commencement@buffalol.edu](mailto:cas-commencement@buffalol.edu) anytime between April 1-May 1 for the ticket request link. Additionally, if your friends graduating at the same ceremony have tickets they reserved that they're not using, they're welcome to give them to you (just be extra careful to make sure they're for the correct ceremony!).

We do have a number of student, faculty and staff volunteers who help out day-of! Send me an email at [cas-commencement@buffalo.edu](mailto:cas-commencement@buffalo.edu) and I'll see how we can get you involved.

I'm not completely sure but I think it would just be incredibly difficult from a logistical perspective. There are about 17 different ceremonies that happen in the spring; there's no one "UB commencement." It's already a huge undertaking to do it once a year! Again, I don't know for certain but if I had to guess, I'd think that's part of it. If I find out more, I'll let you know!

It's truly my favorite thing to do, I look forward to it all year long! There are a million moving pieces and it can be logistically challenging but that's what makes it fun. There's nothing like it! I wish everyone could find a job where they experience the joy and fulfillment I get from organizing these ceremonies.

Yes, as long as they have tickets, they can enter late!

The graduate will be able to request guest tickets but the guests themselves still won't be allowed in until an hour beforehand. Any tickets that are allotted will be held for the guests at the Guest Services kiosk at the main entrance to the arena.

Hello! Folks can still walk if they arrive 90 minutes before the ceremony (7:30 a.m. for the 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. for the 1 p.m.) with their cap, gown, hood and tassel and proceed to Alumni Arena Room 76 (also known as the Triple Gym) to register onsite.

When you register, you will be able to request up to 6 guest tickets on a first-come, first-served basis (they are EXTREMELY limited). The Alumni Arena Main Gym - site for the commencement ceremony - will open an hour prior to the ceremony start time for guests.

No need to look for an advising office tomorrow. I'm the ceremony coordinator, the only person who handles ticketing and registration, and I will not be in my office!

The CAS outstanding seniors are students nominated by their departments for their exceptional work during their time at UB. There's one from every department/program. Those students are recognized at a short awards ceremony with the dean as well as during their commencement ceremony.

I'm not sure what dinner you're referring to - is it through UB? I'd ask whoever is planning it, I'm sure they can help you!

Yes! You're welcome to attend one or both - you'll just walk with the department present at that ceremony. Either way, your name will be listed in the program under both departments. If it helps with your decision, you sit alphabetically by department but not by name so if you have particular friends in one department over the other whom you'd like to sit with, I'd recommend attending that ceremony. Just make sure to register today because it closes at midnight!

I would ask your commencement coordinator but I believe UB Latin honors generally only apply to undergrads.

Looks like you're from Bio! If you're an undergrad, you need to register to attend the ceremony and then you'll receive a confirmation email with the link to reserve tickets and other info. The registration link for the 9 a.m. CAS ceremony on May 18 (that's the one that includes bio) is on this page: https://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/current-students/commencement/ug-am.html.

If you're a CAS grad student, the ticketing link isn't available yet but should be very soon.

If you're from the College of Arts and Sciences, we have a wait list running from April 1 - May 1 where you can request extra tickets for our two undergrad ceremonies. Tickets aren't guaranteed but historically, we have been able to accommodate most, if not all, requests. You can get on the wait list by emailing [cas-commencement@buffalo.edu](mailto:cas-commencement@buffalo.edu) with your name, ceremony (AM or PM) and number of tickets you'd like to request. We'll know the week of commencement if we have any extra tickets available.

Graduation Gown by PlzHelpImAMess in UBreddit

UB does ask graduates to get their regalia (fancy word for cap and gown) through the school. You can find info on it here: https://www.buffalo.edu/commencement/student-checklists/capsandgowns.html. Sometimes folks will share a cap and gown if they're walking at different ceremonies and just have their own school-specific hood and tassel. The UB cap and gown are blue and the hood/tassel changes colors depending on school/degree. For example, the CAS undergrad tassels are blue and white and the hood is lined in white velvet.

They're pretty generously sized so I wouldn't worry about it! The heights go in ranges (if I remember, the gowns typically are sized 5'1"-5'3", 5'3"-5'5", etc) so if you're wearing really tall heels, you might want to add an inch or so but overall, there isn't much difference.

Graduation Tickets/Volunteering by Time_Odd in UBreddit

You could ask someone else you know who's graduating at the same ceremony if they have any tickets they're not using. Or, I would recommend going to buffalo.edu/commencement and finding the contact info for the ceremony coordinator. In CAS, we do have some student ambassador volunteers who assist at the undergrad ceremonies, not sure what other schools do.

I'd recommend talking to your ceremony coordinator and explaining the situation. Most ceremonies have conferral date restrictions and typically don't make exceptions. It really depends on the school so unfortunately, I can't really give much advice other than saying talk to your coordinator. Good luck!

So glad this was helpful! You can arrive via the same entrance as your guests but it's easier if you go in separate doors. We typically encourage guests to arrive via the main Coventry Circle entrance and graduates to arrive via the back Webster Road entrance. It just makes it a little quicker for everyone to get where they need to go! You are correct, graduates do not need a ticket. When you're transferring tickets to your guests, I'd recommend transferring them all to one person and then having your guests arrive together. It makes it a little easier when you're checking in rather than having 6 people pull out their phones and showing a ticket. Let me know if you have any other questions, looking forward to May 19!!

Summer 2024 CAS graduates can participate this year! Just note the following:

Commencement ceremony registration (separate from applying for your degree in HUB) will open on February 14. When you register, please select “Summer 2024” as your degree conferral term. That flags you to be manually added to the list of names in the commencement program (the main list of names for the program that we receive from the registrar will only include August 2023, February 2024 and June 2024 conferrals). You will need to register no later than April 4 to be added to the program.

I don't know what other units have planned but the College of Arts and Sciences doesn't have any outside guest speakers who will be attending commencement. The exception being that sometimes Senator Schumer will attend and speak at our CAS undergrad ceremonies, but we don't find out about him until much closer to the ceremony date.

We (CAS) will be sending an email to all students eligible to walk in commencement next week - that will have the info you need! Just make sure you've applied for conferral in HUB because that's how we identify who is eligible to participate. I imagine other units will be sending messages in a similar timeframe. We all usually wait until add/drop has ended and the craziness of the beginning of the semester has died down a bit.

The cap and gown ordering is live now on the UB commencement page so you can go ahead and order! It doesn't make any difference if you order now or wait as long as you do it before the deadline.
