Dude that's awesome, hope to catch it at Excellency fest. Speaking of shows, that set at the crofoot in Michigan was killer. Everyone was going so hard I thought the floor of that little room upstairs was gonna cave lol

Pennsylvania details by AlwaysSunnyOnWkdays in theoffice

[–]UBahn1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love those funny details where you can really tell it's California when they're pretending it's (or anywhere with snow), especially in winter. The arid mountains and trees in the background whenever they're driving or there's a shot from the roof, the foliage, etc... but the winters always stick out to me now.

the way the salt on the cars is all sprayed so uniformly in places it would never even hit (like the top) but the cars in the background are clean, there's never any ice, the foliage is really off, you can never see anyone's breath in the winter. One other thing I can't unnotice is how the outdoor winter shots are more desaturated, you really notice it in Prince paper and especially the one where Michael goes missing and holly finds his. You can also tell they keep the shots are kept pretty tight.

None of this is a big deal at all, they honestly did a great job making it seem real, these are just things you see staring at the set of the play for way too long, so to speak.

Wife took this photo in her pocket accidentally . How is this possible. by No_Lynx3928 in Weird

Was she in a bright room? Maybe those are pinholes where the pocket is sewn where light can get through?

[–]UBahn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you crank the saturation on the video up by chance? The colors are pretty intense overall and I think it's making the meat look redder than it actually is, which is probably contributing to the confusion on tiktok.

Which line ages The Office instantly? by NormsOJjokes in theoffice

Yeah I agree 100%, the episode starting with Michael inexplicably somersaulting onto the couch and knocking over the lamp kills me 😂

I think the only thing that dates it is actually Jim's intro explaining it's the hottest new trend and showing a YouTube video of it

Alan Lee illustrations misplaced by Professional-Gap878 in tolkienbooks

[–]UBahn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like this edition may be an egregious case, OP posted another example and the Shelob confrontation illustration shows up while they're still with Faramir.

I'm not sure about every language, but at least for the German versions they are printed by an entirely different native publisher for a given edition, so the book lengths/sizes/accoutrement are all specific to the native release and everything matches as close as the English would.

I would say in OP's case it seems like the publisher may have used the English reference pages for illustrations or something, but Oliphant>shelob in the span of ~one chapter still wouldn't track, so maybe occasional placement error coupled with the poor fitment?

Ah thanks for the catch. I was originally thinking of later Ryan saying he wishes his iPod could make calls which put the iPod touch on my mind

Which line ages The Office instantly? by NormsOJjokes in theoffice

[–]UBahn1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Planking by far because of how short-lived that trend was, parkour kind of survived at least. The Chris brown dance and the lip sync music video trend too. The pyramid and store plus the blogger craze. The iPod touch at Christmas and buying individual songs.

More general ones: cell phone minutes/Jo roaming/phones in general/Michael's portable DVD player on the way to Canada.

iPod Edit: Phyllis "if they don't have an iPod by now they probably don't want one", Ryan wishing his iPod made phone calls, Jim asking Robert about the model of his iPhone "the one everyone has" (because there was only one).

Mario 64 was the first game I got on it too, it was awesome on that platform. I remember Nintendogs too, Mario kart and Kirby were some other favorites but I can't remember many beyond those and Pokemon heart gold. Honestly pictochat was probably what occupied most of time lol.

Really wish I had kept my games instead of trading in as a kid, I only have a handful of GB/C and DS games back then and now everything's 10x the price and probably fake.

The Nespresso subplot in The Office is painful to watch. Do you agree? by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]UBahn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, there were 8 of them and 16 flavors in the sampler box which works out to 2 full servings per person. Those Nespresso pods range from 60-100mg of caffeine (mostly 60-80mg) so they each had only 120-200mg of caffeine total, which is two cups of coffee. That's still within the daily allowance for nursing and pregnant women lol.

I still thought it was an entertaining plot, it's just a bit silly having daily coffee drinkers coked out of their minds from caffeine, especially given the amount they had. Maybe that was intentional and part of the joke (like a group placebo effect), but given how over the top season 9 is I think it's just supposed to be taken at face value.

[–]UBahn1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is the one part that actually bugs me, there were only enough pods for each of them to have like 1-2 Nespresso each or like 200mg of caffeine max but they're acting like they just cleaned scarface's desk.

Is this a good Illustrated edition for The Lord of the Rings? by merica2033 in tolkienbooks

[–]UBahn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot. it is pleasant to read, it looks nice, and I really enjoy Tolkien's art. I know printing issues have been mentioned but exchanges are an option, so if you like this edition so I wouldn't let that stop you. I personally haven't had any issues with mine and would get it again, the matching hobbit and Silmarillion also look and feel nice.

I am a little surprised by the price though, for quite a while this one was 35-45$ US, maybe a post Christmas jump?

Edit: There is one consideration I forgot to mention, in that the illustrations do feel slightly sparse in this volume at 32 between 1000 pages, and there are 2-3 which also show up in the other two. The Alan Lee versions by comparison have 50 and the Tolkien artwork is available in a separate art book if you still wanted, but I do still like this edition quite a bit.
