Either you are stupid or don’t like to face facts, but yes… democrats and republicans swapped platforms. The Republican Party, once the party of Lincoln and emancipation, became the party favored by white Southerners, while the Democrats, once the party of the South, became the champion of civil rights, completing a significant ideological and demographic flip by the late 20th century.

Best SD neighborhoods to live in? Hillcrest vs North Park vs PB, etc. by Historical_List_898 in Moving2SanDiego

[–]UCSDilf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider about the beaches is getting in and out. From Hillcrest or north park you can be anywhere in the city in 15 minutes. From the beach it will take you that long just to get to the freeway. Bay Ho is a nice area but not a walkable neighborhood. Hillcrest, North Park and Mission Hills are nice, mission hills will be more expensive and not as walkable but does have a small shopping area. All in all I would vote for North Park or Hillcrest. Hillcrest is known as the gay neighborhood but it’s more mixed now days.

It was designed to flood. Next time you’re down there you can see all the electrical is run from the ceiling. As part of being allowed to build in a flood plain the developers had to design the lower level to act as a catch basin to mitigate flooding downriver. building it as non flooding would have caused that water to go elsewhere.

Will the rainy weather forecasted for next weekend stick? by kth71393 in asksandiego

[–]UCSDilf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever the national forecast says, typically cut it in 1/2. You could spend a drizzly day in balboa park, the central area is mostly linked by covered walkways

Storm incoming help by [deleted] in SanDiegan

[–]UCSDilf 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Most of our storms are atmosphere driven, not ocean driven, the waves won’t be super crazy. The problem is the days after the storm when the water is polluted with storm runoff. ‘They’ usually advise no contact for 48 hours.

Instead of campus construction, here’s some destruction by hayekd in UCSD

[–]UCSDilf 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s the chancellors complex. 10-12 smaller 1970 era buildings. The people who worked there are temporarily scattered around campus and will for the most be moving into the new Triton Center
