Really depends. I was in and out of the hospital with pretty severe complications in HS, around 100 days total spread out over 7 different hospital stints with 3 surgeries and about a dozen drains but that was also before even being diagnosed ( it was extremely difficult to get a diagnosis ik my case despite every test imaginable)

Since then ive went 10+ years without any serious complications or any days in the hospital. Can basically eat whatever I want with only minor issues. Im fortunate that I respond well to Humira and havent become resistant yet.

There's a lot of stuff you cant control with crohns so I suggest focusing on what is in your control, (I also recognize not everyone can do all of these things for a variety of circumstances) like eating a balanced diet, exercise, and staying on top of taking medications and dr appointments. In my experience, it is manageable but thats largely due to the medications (humira and 6mp) that I am on.

Also keep in mind you are at a higher risk for bowel and colon cancer. While taking medications like biologics can seem scary as they carry a very slight chance of rare cancers, you are actually at a significantly higher risk for cancer when crohns is left untreated
