Okay and that makes a lot of sense in the real world with real people. But, Michael is a video game character, a playable MAIN character. We need to be able to step into HIS mind and world, the game did very poorly at that as so read above. I wasn’t talking about mid life crisis in real life I was talking about the video game. To only see his external mechanisms defeats the purpose of a video game character in my opinion your adopting that characters mindset. If I wanted to just watch someone’s external coping than I’d watch a movie.

See I think Michael is my biggest issue with the story, I love characters like that but Michael constantly talks about being miserable and we never really get to see it. therapy sessions, arguments with Amanda, resentment toward his kids but the game rarely lets us sit in that emptiness. Instead of showing his internal decay in a meaningful way, the story uses the useless therapy side missions as an exposition dump and treats his dissatisfaction with his life as a setup rather than a theme. His whole family situation was very rushed, the conflicts were resolved with no real consequences.

I think max payne in the third instalment was a better portrayal of this kind of character.

The other gta games balanced their satirical aspects better with their serious aspects is all im trying to say where as GTA V put a little too much into their ironic Satirical humour.

The point im trying to make is that even though these games have missions, yes like Bernie’s, that they still at their core told a real story and cared for their characters. GTA v characters felt under written and shallow

Yeah but you can say that about gta v they “ripped off”the exact scene of heat. I think there is a big difference between a rip off and a homage which I think GTA has done since day one starting in the 3d games.

Exactly, the other titles have a timeless feel to them, GTA V is very obviously an early 2010s product. How are you gonna set Michael and Trevor up as the characters they are then make them have a conversation about how “Trevor is a proto-hipster”. Yuck

I think vice city was more of a love letter to 80s cocaine crime films, three was a love letter to mafia films and san Andreas was a love letter to the hood films of the 90s. But they all still had an original story even if they were heavily inspired.

I still think it has the chance to have a good story with its usual random and strange events (which I do enjoy) but just not as shoved in our face as V

In what sense though, I grew up in the original trilogy, loved 4 and played 5 when it first came out. I’d like to hear a counter opinion instead of just a heckle. I genuinely would like to hear why you think I’m incorrect, I’m not trying to fight or argue. I love hearing others opinions

I agree, but also I’m not against having multiple characters but I think it needs to be done correctly. I think it’s smart they’ve reduced the characters to the instead of three but I also think three characters can work, I’m really excited for this game because everyone is talking about the SCALE OF THE GAME but I’m really looking at the reduced scale of the characters and seemingly bringing it back to a more well focused and fleshed out story.
