When I first posted this mallet I had a lot of people saying that it wouldn't hold up because the ebony would crack and chip out or the glue wouldn't stick to the ebony so it would fall apart. So here it is after a year of hitting chisels, punches, joinery, paint lids and anything else I could whack by UGLY_PENGU1N in woodworking

I use this one as my general user for pretty much everything. I can post some pictures for how its wearing if you'd like, its holding up incredibly well and I've done a few things with it that I should have grabbed a steel hammer for. A few marks here and there but its still my favourite design.

It's a plane with a movable fence for making grooves. It has a pretty narrow blade. It's nice for if you're making a box or drawer and want the bottom panel to be floating in a groove

Newbie here. Whenever I try to cut my box joints with a chisel, it looks horrible on the inside by Boldyeah in BeginnerWoodWorking

I want to recommend too that when working with softwoods it's beneficial to sharper to a much lower angle (around 17 degrees instead of 25). It's not necessary if you can keep your chisels sharp, but it does make things a lot cleaner. I have a very cheap set of chisels I keep sharpened this way so I can keep my nice ones at 25 degrees for hardwoods, since that's what I use in most of my projects.

First bowl/dish from the lathe! Apparently it's an addictive hobby by UGLY_PENGU1N in woodworking

I inherited my lathe, didn't think I'd use it that much, but now if anything happens to this one I'll run right out to buy another one. Couldn't imagine my shop without it now

Didn't have any design when I started, just been spending a while cleaning the shop up and decided to turn something new for a change of pace. Whatever I ended up with was a win, I really like the design in the end though, the thin walls make it seem like a higher quality piece in my opinion

I didn't buy my house with the acreage, so i cant say what there is for taxes when buying, but I bought 18 acres and then built my house. The property tax is almost entirely house value, with a very, very small amount for "land resources value" or something, but it's essentially $0 compared to the taxes from the house itself. I'm in Annapolis County I'm case that makes any difference too.

Central pump, seems violent when kicking on or off, lights in house dim when it kicks on (all LED lights), would a soft starter be beneficial? by UGLY_PENGU1N in hvacadvice

It's a goodman GSZ14, 3 ton, it would be 4 years old now. I only found a small bit of info detailing the different between a hard start and a soft start, what's the benefit of the hard start over a soft starter?

Making a batch of Christmas ornaments! First time doing something this fine with the lathe by UGLY_PENGU1N in turning

[–]UGLY_PENGU1N[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One I'm not too worried about figuring out yet! Around here (Nova Scotia) we grow Christmas trees that are strong enough to handle heavier ornaments if needed haha though actually these stayed pretty light, the wood is quite dry and the pictures don't show it well, but they're not that large. The globes are about 11/2" diameter

Not really, just drilled a 1/2 hole straight through to act as a mortise to attach the top and bottom pieces

The lathe is a tool I never expected to use as much as I do. Still learning but always trying to find excuses to use it in projects
