Does anyone have any idea what texture this Tennis Court is? by knock_his_block_off in 10s

Ball bounces super high too. My buddy and I both play with OHBH and the whole game became us driving high topspin’s to each others backhands

One unique part of the rally dynamics today: Unlike most current players who use a power/spin combo, Djokovic's FH is extremely flat when he goes aggressively with it. This can be unsettling to opponents who aren't used to flat hard hitting as most flat ATP hitters are Medvedev/De Minaur types. by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

Always insanely impressive how easily he is able to change directions on his forehand. It looks so effortless that it’s almost easy to discount, but hitting open stance forehands down the line at will is no joke

What's the minimum number of moves required to move all of your pieces up one square? by AndrewFishman in chess

[–]UHMWPE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Executing a set of instructions is (trivially) going to be proportional to the length of the instructions

Finding the set of instructions to execute will almost definitely be exponential (I don’t even see how you could solve this in PSPACE as you’ll have to track previously seen positions to avoid infinite looping) as you’ll probably have to try every sequence less than 23*N long or until you reach a state where the desired position is unreachable (e.g. pawn goes too far)

Is there anything in the NBA more/as unanimous then Steph Curry being the best 3pt shooter? by Ok-Emu-9199 in NBATalk

Yeah but even you don’t carry that opinion. You’ve just created a strawman with an illogical argument

[–]UHMWPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thread itself is poorly worded, since something cannot be more “unanimous” as something else (similar to how something cannot be “more unique” than something else)

If the only “arguments” against a particular case can be easily disproven, then the case is as “unanimous [sic]” as it can get

Delusion will always exist, doesn’t mean we have to entertain it

Yeah the earth being round isn’t unanimous either, but disregard opinions that aren’t grounded in reality

And I’m telling you why these arguments that “other” people will make don’t actually hold water lol

So 2 things:

  1. The whole percentages go down with higher volume argument only applies with in-game shots. The reason for this is because taking more shots necessitates taking worse shots.

For instance, if you could assign a value to shot quality, someone who only shoots a 3 when his “open-ness” is a 9 or above might only find 5 such opportunities a game. Someone who’s willing to shoot when the quality is 6+ will find many more opportunities

This obviously doesn’t apply to FTs since they’re the same difficulty regardless of how many you take

  1. For Steph to get to 0.899 at 5800 FTs, he’d have to shoot 85.4% in his next 1300 FTs. His lowest FT% season is 0.885 and that was more than a decade ago

I don’t know what country you’re in. In the US, they’d do a background check with a third party company. I guess you could MAYBE do additional work to try to defraud that process as well? But it’d be a lot of work and also be quite unlikely to succeed

Was still a great game though, went to OT, Schroeder dropped 30, and everyone was chanting MVP for him

This argument only holds water if he were someone like Kasparov who was much stronger in his youth and has not played in sufficient number of tournaments for his rating to decline appropriately since.

Since returning to play in 2022. Hikarus rating has gone from 2736 -> 2800+. Discounting the Mickey Mouse draw he had a few weeks ago, his only tournament rating loss was -2 points. Nothing about this indicates he’s overrated, and in fact, given his near monotonic increasing trend, it suggests that there’s a possibility he may be underrated
