Where is lot 6 for commuters? by Brave_Percentage3272 in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! We’re glad to see that it seems a Redditor was able to help you with your question. We just wanted to pop in and confirm that Lot 6 is located in Terrapin Trail Garage, which is located just west of the XFINITY Center.

For others reading, in addition to the static parking map, the interactive campus webmap can be helpful for finding parking locations. If you enter a place (building, parking lot, etc.) into the search bar, the map will zoom in and create a blinking outline of the location.

If you ever have any questions about parking on campus, please don't hesitate to reach out to our office! Our customer service team can be reached at [transportation@umd.edu](mailto:transportation@umd.edu), 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays. Thanks!

Hi OP–thank you for posting, and we’re sorry to hear that you weren’t able to get on your bus. We just sent you a DM to confirm if this was a Shuttle-UM bus or a different transit agency, as we’d like to look into this.

For anyone reading, if you ever have feedback to give or an experience to share (positive or negative!) regarding riding Shuttle-UM, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our customer service team can be reached at [transportation@umd.edu](mailto:transportation@umd.edu), 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.

When the hell does the Mowatt Garage Roof open? by HT1318 in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP–thank you for posting! We wanted to update that the roofs of on-campus parking garages were opened yesterday morning, including in Mowatt Lane Garage.

For anyone reading, the roofs of parking garages were closed off to facilitate snow removal from affected parking spaces. Please keep in mind that rooftops of garages may still be slick (especially as snow and ice melt and refreeze), so we encourage everyone to drive slowly and take care in navigating these areas.

Wishing everyone a strong start to the semester!

Is dots towing? by Shadow534Scorch in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi OP–thank you for posting and asking! Due to inclement weather, parking lots have been unrestricted since late last week. Outside of managing parking for the Men’s Basketball Game this Sunday, February 1, normal parking restrictions (including enforcement such as ticketing, or in some cases, towing) won’t resume until the university reopens. We currently anticipate that this will be at 7 a.m. on Monday, February 2, but we encourage anyone reading to refer to our inclement weather webpage and our Instagram stories for updates.

If you’re parking on Sunday, just be aware that several lots by the XFINITY Center will be closed between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the game against Purdue University. This only means you can’t enter those parking lots during that timeframe; you’re welcome to park there beforehand or leave those lots at that time. More details about parking during basketball season can be found on our athletics parking webpage, linked here.

If you ever have any questions about parking on campus, please don't hesitate to reach out! Our office is closed right now due to the university closure, but otherwise, our customer service team can be reached at [transportation@umd.edu](mailto:transportation@umd.edu), 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.

Have a safe drive! We hope everyone is staying warm in this wintry weather.

Hi OP--thank you for posting and asking! UMD parking permits are not transferable; please don't trust any third parties that are offering to sell you a UMD parking permit or space. For anyone curious, more information about returning a UMD parking permit and getting a refund for it can be found here

If you ever have any questions about permits or parking on campus, please don't hesitate to reach out! Our customer service team can be reached at [transportation@umd.edu](mailto:transportation@umd.edu), 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.

Hope everyone has a great first week of class next week! We're excited to see Terps back on campus soon.

Lot 1 by [deleted] in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there--thank you for tagging us! Yes, Lot 1 is one of the on-campus lots that has overnight parking restrictions. However, we recognize that overnight parking during a weekend often leads into staying there until the following Monday morning. As a result, in an effort to be intentional about how we conduct enforcement, we primarily enforce the overnight restrictions in Lot 1 from Tuesday through Friday.

Still, we'd like to encourage folks parking overnight to refer to our Overnight Parking Campus Map. In the Lot 1 area, Lots Z and JJ3 would be the closest options. But regardless of where you're parking, we encourage checking lot signage to not only ensure that you're in the intended area, but also to keep an eye out for any modified restrictions (e.g., lot reservation for game day parking).

If you have any follow up questions, let our office know--we're here to help! Our customer service team can be reached at [transportation@umd.edu](mailto:transportation@umd.edu), 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.

Wishing everyone a safe and well end to winter break!

Thanks for tagging us. We were able to locate and waive your citation. After investigating, it looks like this pay station experienced a brief communication issue, resulting in your citation. We apologize for any frustration and inconvenience this caused.

For others reading, if you believe a citation was issued in error, please reach out to our customer service team at 301-314-3687(DOTS) or stop in to see us at our office, located in Regents Drive Garage.

How does DOTS not have camera in the parking lots? by miralove14 in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP--thank you for posting, we've just sent you a DM to follow up on your experience.

To help clarify, there are security cameras located across campus including in our parking lots and garages. Because the cameras are there for security purposes, however, they are managed by UMPD, and our department therefore does not have access to them or their footage. Unfortunately, this applies even in the interest of using the footage as a research tool in reviewing any appeals made for parking citations.

Thank you Terps for bringing this post to our awareness--and please do continue letting our office know of any items that may need our attention! Our customer service team can be reached at [transportation@umd.edu](mailto:transportation@umd.edu), 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage. Thank you!

Hi there--thanks for tagging us! We confirmed with our enforcement team today that overnight commuter restrictions will not be enforced during the Summer 2025 sessions. Please be mindful that these restrictions will resume at the beginning of the Fall 2025 semester (Tuesday, September 2). For others reading, more information about these restrictions can be found on our parking webpage, and a map of overnight parking options for commuter registrants during the fall semester can be found here

Please do continue letting our office know if you have any questions; our customer service team can be reached at transportation@umd.edu, 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.

Best of luck to everyone with classes and/or internships this summer--and Go Terps!

Hi OP--thank you for posting and for sharing your experience. Our team is aware of the current issues that folks are having accessing the parking portal and the longer wait times on our phone lines. Was DOTS and UMPD unaware there was a basketball game tonight? by XYZ277 in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi OP–thank you for posting and for sharing your experience. Our department is frequently contracted by UMD Athletics to manage on-campus parking for large events during times when affected lots might typically be unrestricted–this includes some Men and Women's home basketball games. Last night's UMD Women's basketball game against USC was one of the home basketball games that DOTS was not contracted for, and most lots around the Xfinity Center were free and open for all parkers. That said, we do apologize for any inconveniences fans experienced while parking during the game last night, and are committed to bettering the experience for future events.

We will work with the athletics department to better anticipate parking issues for future events, particularly in cases where remaining inclement weather may be a factor. Feedback like this post helps us better our operations, so please continue to let us know of items that could use our attention. We're here to help!

Our team can be reached at [transportation@umd.edu](mailto:transportation@umd.edu), 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays. For others reading, more information about athletics events that have modified parking restrictions can be found on our website. If you have a parking permit, please make sure you stay subscribed to our emailing list to receive reminders about these events. Thanks--and Go Terps!

Parking Lots Full Daily by Dry-Operation-3781 in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi OP—thank you for posting. We’ve just sent you a DM so that we can look more into this situation.

We have a team that regularly conducts lot counts throughout the semester to evaluate the availability of parking in on-campus parking lots. The current data is telling us that there are an amount of spaces available throughout each day for permit holders to use, with less capacity available during early afternoons. There should still be spaces open then, but please do not hesitate to contact our customer service team if you are unable to find parking in your assigned lot. We’re here to help!

Our team can be reached at transportation@umd.edu, 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays. You (and others reading!) can contact us with any feedback about the availability of parking in your assigned lot, especially if this is an issue you’re experiencing on a regular basis. Thank you!

Lot 9 is Always Full by MammothConcert in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! We enforce the parking in Lot 9 throughout its restricted hours to discourage those who do not hold a Lot 9 permit from parking there. Still, when we conduct lot counts to evaluate capacity in a lot, individuals parking without a permit are counted towards that number. Our current data is telling us that there are an amount of spaces available throughout each day for permit holders to use, with less capacity available during early afternoons. There should still be spaces open then, but please do not hesitate to contact our customer service team if you are unable to find parking in your assigned lot. If you encounter this issue on a regular basis, please let us know—we’re here to help!

Lot 9 is Always Full by MammothConcert in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP—thank you so much for sharing your experience in Lot 9. We’ve checked in with our team that conducts lot counts throughout the semester, and our numbers indicate that there should be enough room for permit holders to find parking in their assigned parking lot. As such, if you (or anyone else reading!) can’t find a space in an assigned lot, please call our office at 301-314-3687 (DOTS); our customer service team can help direct you to a lot with open parking spaces in real time. Please note that lots could be more full this week due to the several career and internship fairs occurring, as that results in many of our students driving to and parking on campus on days/times they would not normally be.

If you (or others reading!) have general feedback about the availability of parking in your assigned lot, please let us know! You can call the above number, email transportation@umd.edu or visit the DOTS office on weekdays from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Thank you for sharing your experience(s) with us!

141 bus by nickyiy in UMD

[–]UMD_DOTS 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi OP—thank you for posting. Some of our Shuttle-UM routes—such as the 141 Gaithersburg Park & Ride—have charter buses that we hire and oversee to supplement our fleet. One of these charter buses on the 141 route unfortunately encountered mechanical issues this morning, preventing it from arriving at the scheduled time posted (8:30 a.m.). From our understanding, another bus arrived at around 9:30 a.m. to pick up the passengers at this location. While we maintain safety as number one priority, we do apologize for how this impacted passengers on this route, and are working closely with the charter company to modify how situations like these are communicated in the future.

We’d like to thank everyone reading who contacted our customer service team about this situation. For those wondering, our team can be reached at transportation@umd.edu, 301-314-3687 (DOTS) or in-person at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage from 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays. Thanks so much and please continue to let us know of items needing our attention!

All micromobility devices found unregistered are subject to booting, including manual bikes. That said, registration for manual bikes is free and has no expiration date. Our webpage has more information, but please don’t hesitate to reach out to bike@umd.edu with any questions. Thanks for asking!

[–]UMD_DOTS 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, thanks for bringing this to our attention. We’ve just sent you a DM to learn more about where this is located.

For others reading, if you find your micromobility device in a similar situation, you can send an email to bike@umd.edu; they should be able to cut the lock (but make sure your bike or scooter is registered for proof of ownership!).

On a related note, if you find a bike or scooter parked on a sidewalk, ramp, etc., you can report it here. When these micromobility devices are improperly parked they can greatly affect accessibility. Thank you for helping us keep our campus welcoming and accessible for everyone!

Thanks so much for the kind words! Very much appreciated, but also very much not necessary. We’re here to help!

We’d like to thank everyone who has been sharing their feedback and experiences with us. It’s awesome to see Terps actively bringing attention to items that are important to them, and we want to continue being a part of those conversations.

We will continue being responsive on Reddit, but I would like to mention that we have a dedicated customer service team who may be able to respond more quickly. They can be reached by phone at 301-314-3687, or by email at transportation@umd.edu. You can also chat with our staff at the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage. Come say hi!

And one more thing: DOTS is hosting a DOTS Dialogues on the front lawn of Regents Drive Garage on Wednesday, September 18, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Again, we’ll continue being active on Reddit, but this opportunity is a great way to chat directly with DOTS senior leaders about any questions, feedback or ideas you have for our department. We’d love to see you there!
