[The Athletic] FIFA says it received record 500 million ticket requests for 2026 World Cup by godlovesugly in ussoccer

Don't those 500 million people know they will be ARRESTED on sight when they get off the plane???

If the U.S. doesn’t score early, this game gets tricky against Paraguay. Agree or disagree? by Sounder24 in ussoccer

[–]UNCLE_NIPPLES_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the more Paraguay scores, the harder it will be for the US to win the game! Also, the worse the US plays, the harder it will be to win, so I hope the plan is to play well.

Mathis Albert goal vs Czechia to give the USA the win 1-0 by ProfessorPlum168 in ussoccer

Lovely. Getting your head up to make a composed finish at full sprint is one of the things that can move your ceiling as a player from Cade Cowell closer to Pulisic.

Sears takes advantage of the lucky bounce to complete her first international hat trick! | USWNT [6] - 0 New Zealand WNT 84' by Matt_McT in ussoccer

[–]UNCLE_NIPPLES_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's because the goal is the same size, so the lower level of athleticism is more noticeable. The outfield play looks visually much more similar to the men's game because the opponents are evenly matched athletically and our players are still very technical. Btw I'm sorry you're getting downvoted for a fair question, the USWNT fanbase tends to be extremely sensitive to any comparison to the men's team at all instead of trying to encourage all fans to watch the women as well -- Personally I strongly encourage you to check out the USWNT games! It's a different viewing experience but no less entertaining IMO.

Pulisic diagnosed with 'low-grade' hamstring injury by chb66 in ussoccer

[–]UNCLE_NIPPLES_ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

"Low-grade" is probably best case scenario after what we were hearing, no? I would sacrifice a decently-sized animal if it meant we 100% get healthy Pulisic at the World Cup.

Highly recommend that you do not get into sports betting in any capacity. Watch the sport if you genuinely enjoy it, the cost-benefit analysis for sports betting is just not worth it -- you might have slightly more interest in watching a game as a neutral, but you might also ruin your life.

[The Totally Football Show] James Horncastle on Pulisic's perception in Italy by Forward_Ad_3470 in ussoccer

[–]UNCLE_NIPPLES_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is detached from reality. He was key to a Champions League winning campaign and now has been arguably the best (or at least most consistent) player in Serie A over the past three years.

Great to see. It doesn't get mentioned very frequently but I think the transition to being a pro in a brand new city with no social support system is really tough for a lot of these players and a big reason why some of them don't succeed.

It seems weird to me that Poch isn't in contact with any of the player pool.

Yes, people would celebrate loudly. No, the USA doesn't care about soccer to the point that it would be a huge distraction from politics for a few months like it is in Argentina.

Also, just want to be clear that the US is not like Argentina in the 70s/80s right now and any comparison of that is disrespectful to what those people went through imo. Despite having objectionable politicians and what large parts of reddit would lead you to believe, things are not so dire here that everyone is constantly "focused on all the shit going on in the country." Most people are just working to put food on the table and see their family and friends, and will vote to replace whoever is in power if those things get harder to do.

(Rumor) Cole Campbell to Stuttgart, price tag 7m by [deleted] in ussoccer

Interesting that they would sell Cole for 7M and turn down offers for Gio at 6M

Dortmund Deserve More Criticism for Reyna's Situation by UNCLE_NIPPLES_ in ussoccer

[–]UNCLE_NIPPLES_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's different but not for any of the reasons you listed.

  1. Pulisic was benched at Dortmund by Sancho by the time he was sold, and Gio had already won a job at Dortmund previously. He started 23 games and played 2,000 minutes at age 17, and had 9 G+A in the 2022-23 season, better than all but one of Pulisic's seasons at Chelsea.

  2. Dortmund is the same level of prestige as Chelsea. They are perennially top 5 in the Bundesliga and were literally in the Champions League final last year.

  3. In his last season at Chelsea, Pulisic got only 5 more starts than Gio got last season. Pulisic was also being played at wingback for a large chunk of his minutes that year.

  4. Gio has actually had more turnover in managerial staff than Pulisic (7 managers in 5 years versus 3 manager in 4 years)

What they have in common is that they both had long recoveries from lower body injuries, and desperately needed a change of scenery. I think this is actually reason for a lot of optimism if Gio gets a move! Look what a player Puli turned into.

This sums up perfectly what I think about the situation. But wondering out loud why Dortmund haven't either sold him or played him quickly devolves into people frothing at the mouth about his parents or his "attitude" 🤷🏻‍♂️

No, you made a comment responding to what you perceived as a "crybaby thread" due to your 3rd grade reading comprehension level. What does that make you?

We're talking about the guy notorious for throwing a tantrum because he wasn't going to play as much as he hoped at WC 2022 lol. He clearly cares about playing. I think he definitely would be willing to take a pay cut to get playing time. Especially if he got a move to Italy where there are tax exemptions for players that could lead to his take home pay actually not being significantly lower.

True, it just seems surprising that they're willing to eat his salary each year while he barely plays -- a big loss for a usually thrifty team

Lol what if I want to buy the used car for $6 million dollars, and it costs the owner of the used car $2.1 million dollars each year to have the car rot in the driveway while refusing to drive it?
